#52 - LUCKY STAR
Average: 7.6528 - Highest: 10 (x4), Lowest: 5 (x4)
Writer: Madonna
Producer: Reggie Lucas
Although only Lucas is credited as producer, Madonna was not happy with the way he handled this (and some other) songs on the album, which led to an argument between them. Lucas later left the project and then she went to her boyfriend, John "Jellybean" Benitez, to remix the track according to her ideas. Only a bad bitch.
Here's what Benitez said about it:
Quote:
She was unhappy with the whole damn thing, so I went in and sweetened up a lot of music for her, adding some guitars to 'Lucky Star', some voices, some magic. [...] I just wanted to do the best job I could do for her. When we would play back 'Holiday' or 'Lucky Star', you could see that she was overwhelmed by how great it all sounded. You wanted to help her, you know? As much as she could be a bitch, when you were in groove with her, it was very cool, very creative.

Lucky Star was Madonna's first Top 10 hit in the US (yes, Everybody, Burning Up and Holiday all
failed. Don't even ask me how...), peaking at #4. In the UK it peaked at #14.
She performed it live at The Virgin Tour, The Who's That Girl Tour and The Confessions Tour.
The video is a big kii. I think Madonna might consider suicide if you show it to her nowadays - but there's no denying it was important to solidify her image between the public.
I've never been a big fan of this song, really. It received a 6.5 from me. Should've gone before "Everybody".
