Sis Loud is a great album!!! It is criticall and commercially acclaimed. It mad our girl iconic and that's why it has been nominated!! Something that Rated R failed to do although being a great album.

Just goes to show the industry's opinion is based more on public opinion than we thought. If it was based strictly on artistry and skill (which it should be) She would've won easily. I can only list like 2 other albums released that year. One of The Boys and The E.N.D. Wasn't that good of a year for music.

Overall not cohesive but shows off her diversity as an artist. But when you listen to all the songs they work really well together. I hope she takes home a Grammy for her album

I think GGGB really elevated Rihanna to 'iconic' status. Everyone knew who she was after that era, and at one point she was unfortunately the target of every paparazzi/media outlet. Then during Rated R, a lot of people thought Rihanna had 'gone weird', and although that led to a decline in sales, Rihanna was still a household name. Rated R was much more critically acclaimed than Loud, and deserved a Grammy nom much more than Loud. Loud was made to put Rihanna back in the public's 'good books'. I thought Grammys were about quality, not 'quantity'/commercial.

Yeah. But it lacked the deep emotions i felt in Rated R. That's why i find RR to be superior.

Also, are you calling RR not iconic? An album doesn't have sell 5+ million and go #1 WW to be iconic. I can name a few girls who have sold pretty well, but will never be iconic.

I agree with what your saying. Yes Rated R is more critically acclaimed and yes it came from Rih when she was in a dark place but that doesn't mean that Loud is not quality!

WMN can be arguably her best song ever!! All her single releases were not just dance pop but a variety of different genres. I feel that her versitility gives her a head up on many artist!!

Cheers, Man Down and CKB sounded like nothing on the radio and yet had great production and Rih vocals are signature on each of the tracts.

While typing my last comment, I realized what you just said, the Grammys are a prestigious award but are very dependent on the public, much more than I previously thought. Loud wouldn't have got a nom for AOTY if it was all about artistry. Although who would watch the Grammys if all the nominees were underground/unknown artists who put their heart and soul into their material? I guess that's why a lot of commercial material gets nominated.

Yes, there are a variety of different genres, but the album was made for hits. Urban hits, dance pop hits, ballad hits; that's what the album achieved throughout the world, and I don't see the artistry in Loud at all. It's a good album, but you can tell that Def Jam wanted to quickly release a hit-filled album to make Rihanna the "it girl" again.
