It wasnt only her or wasnt her who turned downed Since You Been Gone the writers were because it doesnt fit the range and vocal type of Duff obviously.
Dr. Luke in an interview in 2011 that he owed much of the success of the song to Clarkson's voice saying it wouldnt be a big hit if it werent for Kelly

Linda Perry doesnt want to give the song to ANYONE. first to pink, even pink heard it and wanted it, she refused because of the song's value to her and she wants to be the one to sing it. however when Christina was working on Stripped she was made to agree to let Christina sing the song i dont know the exact reason maybe because of persistence of Christina and how she sung it.
Also one more trivia, beautiful was recorded and finished once, Christina wants to re-do it saying she's not yet satisfied but Perry refused saying it was perfect.

i thought she wasnt able to put Miss Independent on her Stripped album because it is too late that they need to release the album and the song isnt finish yet.
that's why Kelly finished the song by writing the bridge part of it
