Mediatraffic is extremely reliable for albums (it only has some flaws calculating Asian/South American numbers...). For singles,

IFPI album report is based on shipments, IIRC.

It's extremely messy. It is a "most popular" singles chart, while IFPI is effectively best-selling.

Their guesses are as accurate as possible, you just have to add a good 10% to their total to have a clearer total (since they often underestimate Asian and South American sales). There's no other way to track effective WW sales.

That exactly what I was saying in SYG the other day. Just because a song goes #1 on WW chart it doesn't mean it was huge or even a hit in European countries. The US alone weight at least half on that chart. Mediatraffic is whack but at least it is a good indicator for singles.

IFPI have the resources to properly get a close estimate on shipments of an album...

They are basically RIAA worldwide.

I totally agree. The problem nowadays is that so many albums are under certified or not certified at all which makes everything a little more difficult for IFPI. That's why their estimations might not always reflect the reality but they are never too far off.

Obviously IFPI is more respectable than Mediatraffic. It doesn't cancel the fact that IFPI reports are shipments.

I think a lot of people here can't believe how big is bruno mars as a single seller WorldWide I mean his album has sold more than 12M singles in the US alone and this's only with three singles being released from his album and I am not even counting the featured songs or other songs which weren't officially released like marry you so when you think about it bruno has sold more than 25M singles in the US alone and in 2 years since his first song Nothin on you was released on February 2010
