Humans arguing about God is useless. No one is gonna have any kind of answer. The only thing we can do is individually choose whether or not we personally believe, and respect others for the same.
And bad things happen because people let it. We could very well put an end to many social problems. But most people concern themselves with other things, like materialism and capitalism. There would need to be one hell of a social movement to end things like poverty and hunger. Don't blame God, blame your fellow man.
Let those who believe, believe. If you don't want to, then that's your prerogative. Don't try to force your ideals on them, because you're no better than bible pushers.

Yes, God didn't cause children to starve under the sun in Africa, get sold into sex tourism, or be raised alone in a foster home. Man did all these things to themselves. If you just look back throughout history it is apparent that God was not the reason children are starving in Africa. Through European imperialism large portions of Africa have struggled to recover.
Yeah, when something bad happens in the world? It is man-made, God wasn't involved. When something unbelievable happens - Like, lets say, a plane crashes and only one person survives out of 300 - It's a miracle! God is loving!

That's of course the first answer that comes to mind, but since these kids have no fault at all, why doesn't God punish the ones who did that to them?
