FCC and Viacom came down very hard on her. Right before the superbowl Janet was already veering to a top 10 hit with her song "Just a Little While" which had been leaking over the web. Radio station VJ's were furious with her because due to superbowl FCC was cracking down on ALL MEDIA. So many VJ's, and some until this day refuse to spin her music. MTV and Vh1 blacklisted her and didn't even play her videos. She was banned from events like the VMA's and the Grammys, she lost connection with many musical big heads, and even Lena Horne had turned her down and refused to let her play her in the biopic Janet was about to be in. And we all know how inclusive the music industry is. Once you piss off a few people, it's hard to build your way back up.
I mean I do put some blame in Janet, because she should of just went overseas and keep solidifying her relevance there, but instead she became sheltered and went undercover, as well as only releasing 2 singles. She should of kept pushing her music, and just paid the FCC fines so she wouldn't of had to face so much scrutiny, but she was hell bent on not caving in.
