For a pop crossover artist she already receives amazing critical acclaim. Her music will grow with her, I think her label are fighting her about it but Safe & Sound seems to hint that she is winning.
She is obviously disillusioned with Scott Borchetta atm but I'm sure she doesn't want to leave her label, as long as they give her room for growth and give her artistic control and some promo she will be fine. She isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
+1 There is a lot I'm expecting and I'm anticipating to see if she will succeed.
I guess what people want it to be dark is, people want it have more Bon Iver, Adele feel. You will get what I'm trying to say here after you give a listen to an indie record (try Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs"). People want it to have less commercial feeling, a.k.a POP. And people most likely will buy it, since it's Taylor & high-quality music. People already knew her, with the quality of the work, she'll get that word-of-mouth power, and it will sell A LOT of record just like what happened to Adele. (Come on, who still pay attention to chard & Top Forty game? pop acts & lovers do. but general public & music junkies, the record buyers? nope)

Ah, so you know what I mean then.
We're at the same boat, but on different decks. I want this upcoming album to have a Bon Iver/The Civil Wars/Alison Krauss/Emmylou Harris feel. With those artists, I feel like I'm listening to an old friend's stories, the one that haven't met in a long time whenever I listen to their music. It's like their music has soul in it. With Adele, I only can admire her voice and her story, but I really cannot feel it as deep as I listen to Taylor or other artists that I mentioned before. With Adele, it's like I'm listening to a drunken girl telling me how a guy broke her heart badly. And that's it. I can only feel bad for the heartbreak she has had but I don't want to jump on the pity-party train along with her. But with Taylor, it's like she's telling her heartbreak stories but she also tells me that all is good even tho it's not. It feels like, no matter how badly she has been hurt before, she's able to pick up herself from the ground in the moment of being counted out. I can almost get that positive feeling from every song of her, even her darker songs like "Dear John".
They really done ****ed up not releasing this masterpiece.
