Discussion: What has Rihanna done that's iconic?

"Umbrella" is the only "iconic" moment Rihanna has had involving music. That
being said, I'm a fan of Bey, but isn't this thread a little ironic considering that she,
herself, has had only one "iconic" moment in music: "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)."

She has no memorable performances, no true stanbase, very few memorable videos, and an image that is so beyond forced.
I like Rihanna. Everyone likes Rihanna. Nobody loves her, though, and that is why she's always just as big as her latest hit. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing Honestly. Her discography is filled with easily digestable, trendy music, which is fine but her career suffers because of it imo. In the end, her number ones will look exactly how Mariah's look, with less than half truly being remembered. She has basically no artistic integrity. She has potential but I don't see her ever actually using it or taking over her career. She's the Kim Kardashian of music.

That's not 100% true. Irreplaceable and Crazy In Love in my opinion are iconic. That being said, I feel Don't Stop The Music is iconic, We Found Love has that potential, and Rihanna hasn't been around as long.
Also, Rihanna is not an iconic artist. Then again, that's not what the topic is about.

Crazy In Love, Bootyliscious, Independent Woman and Irreplaceable says hi.
And even past that Beyonce is the performing artist of this generation and has been validated by countless publications and people in the music industry.

I think she has only 1 truly iconic moment with 'Umbrella'. Beside that I think none.... But she still can have a big impact with some singles like 'Dont Stop The Music' and ' Disturbia' even if they aren't reaching ' iconic' level...Anyway her whole career is not just some #1's and records....

The whole 'iconic' thing is played out. It's just a defineable and recognisable image in history...it doesn't even have to be a GOOD image. It doesn't speak of talent, influence, or much of anything else.
Unfortunately though, for many of the Bey stans obsessed with Rihanna, she will most likely be remembered in future years.

Exactly. Most of the times, people on atrl brag about performances that people in real life don't even remember and most of the time it is not music related.
I mean Aretha didn't have an "iconic" performance or an "iconic" social life according to atrl's criteria but she is the most influential singer of the past decades.

And somehow they have contributed largely to that. The fact that some can't let that "comparison" go and are always the first to bring their own fave in the girl's topic speaks volume.

Pop music is all about putting on a particular persona to sell records. Every artist has their selling point of which they use to win over the general public. It's a false world. It's all about fame, money and success. Not being an icon. Artists do not even care about iconography themselves. The only people that care are those on this forum who look so deeply into things that don't concern 99.9% of people.

I disagree. Members have to bring their head out of the stan clouds. You walk up to a regular
person on the street and ask for a Beyoncé song, they will say "Single Ladies" -- not
"Irreplaceable," not "Crazy In Love," and not "Run The World (Girls)." Beyoncé has
obviously had other successful songs, but "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"
is Beyoncé's only "iconic" song.

Milli vanilli is remembered too
why "unfortunetly for Beyonce stans" ? Rihanna's success or failure does not impact beyonce's place in the industry.

Firstly, this thread is not about Beyoncé. Let's drop her name, I don't know why you had to bring her up.
Secondly, people in Europe don't care about SL that much, CIL is one of the most iconic and well known songs from the mainstream pop girls in France and Europe. Everybody knows that song, also Irr is more known than SL here. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about for a so called Beyoncé's "fan".

What kind of ****ery?? They'll say that because thats the most recent one and the most media-covered one...I can't begin to explain how many times I've seen Beyonce referenced with "to the left" or "uh oh uh oh uh oh" versus Single Ladies even in 2010 for instance...Hell most of the people on this forum speak of CIL and Irreplaceable as Bey's iconic songs
