We all have to say goodbye to the mediocre songs we like along the way as we get closer and closer to true 80s greatness! I know I'm pretty sad about two songs that will leave us tomorrow.
Edit: Kinda random, but there were three pairs of songs that had to go to a tiebreaker (whoever had the most 10s, most 9s, etc.); very close scores up towards the top
[geez]Ok, how did 911 get in last place? That song was catchy & cute despite the vocals probably getting annoying after multiple plays. But it's definitely better than The Faraway Nearby.
For me so far: One Track Mind > Jimmy Jimmy > 911 > The Faraway Nearby[/geez]
This song is so irritating. This time, Cyndi took her trademark screaming way too far. "I'm dialing up NIIIIINE-ONNNNNNNE-ONNNNNNE"; is that supposed to be a hook? Goodness. This got the lowest rating from me in the entire game (a generous 4), so I'm glad it's last.
I agree. The chorus is (kind of) memorable so I gave it a 5, I think.
Well.
Okay, I thought this song was pretty decent. There were others that should have finished behind it. The instrumental is solid, and the hook isn't completely horrible. I gave it a 7.
One of the more memorable hooks on True Colors. It's really not a bad song at all, but we all knew Cyndi was gonna get dragged early on. The only song in the entire rate to receive a 0, which I thought was kinda harsh, and it sent this song tumbling down the rankings. Another 7 from me.
One of the best on the album because of the really nice and fun chorus - a 0 is indeed harsh! I gave it a 7 too.
Probably 'more to the surface that meets the eye (or ears, in this case)' in terms of lyrics.
But it's hard tryin' to find the right words for such a pre- 'Debbie Gibson' —esque type of song.
So I'll just agree with steph2buysell from YouTube. .
Yes, the first listen of this song is pure ****ERY. But wait. After a few more listens, can't you sorta bop to it? Even just a little bit? This song shouldn't have left so soon. An 8 from me. RIP.
Janet's first appearance. I really like the "You. Can. Be.... Mine." hook, but it's so damn repetitive. And the song is far too long, which is an illness that many songs on Control suffer from. I gave it a 6.
The first of many "give peace a chance" songs that Madge has done in her career. This is just a bit too cheesy for me. This is the first song in the rate to receive a 10; whatever floats your boat, I guess! A 6 from me.
Y'all seriously just gonna let the second best song from True Colors go before the Top 20? Y'all SERIOUSLY gonna let this go before "Maybe He'll Know"?? I mean, the passion! The beautiful screams Cyndi somehow pulls off in true Lauper-style! Yes, I gave this song that 9. And Eli gave it that 4; he's clearly pressed. Oh and this is the first single to exit the building. RIP Little Boy Blue!
