As far as I can see, the general public connects well enough with Britney Spears to no longer keep up with her celebrity news, search for her on search engines, buy her music or even realize she has a new album out. She is virtually never seen in public and no one outside of pop music forums even realizes she's getting married.

Not one word of this changes the fact that Britney is the more loveable person out of the two of them or that Gaga is about as cuddly as a rabid bear.

What would the public enjoy more?
The cute girl who went in a gorgeous black dress to the VMAs or the girl who went as a man and made a 5 minutes monologue about herself and how big of a star she is?
No shade intended.

Ikr! Like, seriously? Cold and mechanical?
My mom breaks down and starts SOBBING whenever Gaga talks about equality.

She can be as lovable as she wants, but that won't change the fact that the public doesn't give a **** and isn't checking in or wanting to relate to or follow her. At the very least, they care enough to discuss Gaga, which is a higher form of relation than flat out indifference.

No people think she is a freak a lot of the time. I don't think any one in the general public knows a thing about her charity efforts. She's cold, mechanical and just in general off putting and polarizing. I think a lot of people don't like her as a person. At least that's the impression I get when I bring her up in conversation.

And I wonder in what manner you're usually bringing her up.

I knew Vin made this thread.
Any way, I would say say Britney. She's basically the most human celebrity to ever grace the music industry. The world has seen her struggles therefore there is sympathy there, plus the fact that it makes her very relatable to see a celebrity go through **** just like us everyday people do in our lives. We as the general public often view celebrities as indestructible. The masses will always root for Britney as they've been doing since day one. Her girl next door image also helped, plus the fact that she's very humble makes her incredibly likable.
Gay teens, the outcast and "freaks" are more likely to find solace in Gaga because they can relate to her because they also feel misunderstood and unaccepted. Britney seems more real than Gaga. At least with Britney, you know her story is real because we saw it unfold in front of us. Gaga's "story" seems more exaggerated and fantasy like.

The question was who do people connect with more or who do people find more relatable. Britney is the obvious answer to this question. The question was not about relevance. It was about who do you think people would be more comfortable around, who is more likeable, who is more loveable or who is easier to connect with? That answer is obviously Britney Spears.
Sorry but your stanning won't change that.

Nobody denied her being a freak. She IS a freak and it's seriously off-putting to some.
She's hardly "cold and mechanical", though. Everybody knows her for being anti-bullying and the gay spokesperson of this decade. That's one of the things she's known for. The general public DEFINITELY recognizes her as a charitable person who's hellbent on preaching love and compassion. You can't miss it with songs like Born This Way..
There's a reason she won the Trevor Hero LGBTQ award

How is Britney more relatable just because no one gives a **** about her anymore?
If Britney is so relatable and easy to feel comfortable around, why does she look like a spooked, distant plush toy at all of her fan meet and greets? You think just because she's stripped down and boring now, she's more relatable?

This. I would much rather spend an evening with Gaga then Britney, and I can assure you, it's not because I'm a stan.
I mean.. have you seen the pictures of her with fans..? She clearly doesn't give two *****. She's just doing her job.

Your picking the wrong points. The point is anything would be more relatable to the general public then Lady Gaga who is about as relatable as a flannel colored unicorn.

You don't = the general public. And you clearly haven't seen the majority of her M&G.

Umm, people need to realize we don't love her because of her success. We love her for still being the same Britney she was before she became the phenomenon that she is today. Despite making brilliant, experimental pop records that have changed pop music, putting on spectacles, making big-budget videos, she's still the down to Earth girl next door she was before all the fame. She does almost nothing to get the word out about her releases, no high-profile television interviews, or late-night/talk-show performances (she took her kids to a premiere of a new Disney movie on her album release date,) since she's not worried about whether she will continue to survivor among her peers (which she constantly does,) since she defines success by feeling accomplished in the work she's done.

I don't recall anyone saying nobody gave a **** about Britney but you. The fact is people are going to connect to sweet normal person over someone who's looked upon as a weirdo.

The only people who genuinely think that Gaga is exploiting her position as an activist are hardcore haters who stan for other artists. The general public DEFINITELY perceives her as somebody who's caring and wants to change the world positively.

Basically. Britney is more likable by default and is more relatable simply because she is a normal girl. It doesn't matter that Britney is shy now because she has always been a down to earth girl/woman who was never impressed by the glam and hollywood. Same can't be said about Gaga her entire purpose in life is to shock, scare and provoke people. Why would someone find that more relatable then a typical ingenue who shops at Walmart and was apart of the every day Middle Class?

No. The GP sees her as the ice queen who's wearing a grotesque contraption and who doesn't smile on the red carpet. They don't think she's "real."
As for Britney, she's "normal" and "real" but still no one cares anymore.
