Commercial does not mean you have to sing about parties.
.
P.S.: You, guys, have been so obsessed with lyrics during this era. It was always like no deep meaning = bad song even if it was catchy as hell or had a great video or sold millions of copies
To be fair, that chart is based on sales and airplay. She made it to #6 (I think - she was definitely top 10) on the Hot Digital Songs Year-End. She was dragged down because BTW had no airplay longevity.

I mean, PF, BR, Alejandro, Paparazzi and even BTW are all very commercial.
Just because it's not commercial compared to TF doesn't mean it's "experimental."
Lady Gaga used to be the definition of generic and brainless pop, it's not hard to seem hard and heavy compared to her past work.

This is true. But none of her previous leads seemed to have had a problem. Going #2, #3, #8, and then #18...But it is still good that Gaga did this with a song like BTW.

I tend to agree with your posts etc, but c'mon.
Completely untrue. Say what you like about The Fame, but it wasn't generic. There may have been a lot of filler, but the singles were killer and completely different from anything out there at the time. She was new and commercial, which is why she did so well.
