Do you guys think the Netflix deal will help TVD's ratings? I started watching because of Netflix and I was able to finish everything up to this point over break. Hopefully the show comes back to great ratings.

Nope. Ratings are calculated by Nielsen. iTunes, Nexflix, DVR and other alternatives are counted separately. The show has been the #1 show on the network since its debut in 2009. Unfortunately, CW is a failure network and only one show manages to score above 3 million which is TVD. Unless, you own a Nielsen box ( peoples' viewership isn't counted). Which is why people have to learn how to properly analyze/decipher ratings because demographic ratings matters most.

I hope so too. The show is nowhere near being in danger (unless The CW shuts down ) but it would be nice if it remained stable at above 3 million viewers.

I just meant promo wise. Surely the Netflix viewership will lead many to getting into the new episodes. It's a shame that the first three or so episodes sucked so badly though. I almost stopped watching. By around the fifth episode things started heating up.

I know tons of people who started watching it through Netflix too so I hope it helps.
The midseason finale of The Vampire Diaries took place the first week of
November (so long ago!) had a few twists and turns. Klaus decided to crash the Mystic Falls Homecoming dance, which set in motion a few plans by Damon, Elena and Stefan. First, Katherine posed as Elena at the party, thus ensuring she remained protected. Elena also managed to get Rebekah's necklace and stabbed her with the dagger, which means she is down for the count unless someone pulls it out and revives her. Klaus killed his father, Mikael, and also released Stefan from his compulsion. At the end of the episode, Stefan called up Klaus to tell him he now has the coffins of the other Original family members in his possession.

The Vampire Diaries is finally returning from its long hiatus on Thursday, January 5, with an episode titled "The New Deal". The episode seems to pick up soon after the finale, with Stefan having hid the coffins of the remaining Originals. Klaus is desperate to retrieve the coffins and so he decides to use violence to make a point. In particular, he wants to convince Damon and Elena that he is prepared to do many nasty things until Stefan returns the coffins. Tyler will continue to enjoy his new hybrid status, but he is surprised to learn about the drawbacks, which stem from the consequences of his actions.
Torrey Devitto (Paul Wesley's wife) joins the cast of The Vampire Diaries as a guest star in this episode. She will be playing Dr. Fell, who becomes very interested in Alaric when she learns about his special healing ability. Meanwhile, Alaric and Elena are very concern about Jeremy's behavior and his safety.
EW: Julie Plec on the Mysteries of Stefan
Mandi Bierly of Entertainment Weekly recently spoke to Julie Plec about what’s coming up for Stefan in the second half of the season.
Quote:
“We get the sense that this guy, who used to be much more concerned with protecting collateral damage, now has no concerns about who might get hurt as he tries to get Klaus to back off. [The hybrids] are contributing to the sense of unease that Elena and her friends have about living in this town, and Klaus is relishing everybody’s paranoia, and Stefan is sort of like, ‘No way, get ‘em out. You’re not gonna get ‘em out? I’ll get ‘em out for you.’ So Stefan starts going all Jack Bauer-Chuck Norris on ‘em.”
“Our Town” (EP311) Stills!

I have some good and bad news for The Vampire Diaries fans: Caroline isn't in the upcoming January 5 episode, which is the bad news. But she will be featured in the January 12 episode, so that's the good news!
In "Our Town", Caroline's not exactly in the mood to celebrate her 18th birthday, but Bonnie, Matt and Elena decide to throw her a little surprise party in a very strange location (I’m pretty sure it’s a mausoleum, given the statues). Meanwhile, Damon and Stefan are still communicating, but that might not last very long, because the Salvatore brothers can’t agree on how to handle Klaus. Stefan has a theory of his own and decides to test it, but this leads to a lot of danger.
Elena shares some of Jeremy’s new plans with Bonnie, who is very surprised and concerned. Alaric will be attending a Founder’s meeting in this episode and he will once again run into Dr. Fell (played by Torrey Devitto, who first appears in the January 5 episode). When he encounters her this time, she’ll be arguing with her ex-boyfriend, the medical examiner. Tyler also struggles for control when he refuses to follow Klaus’ most recent command. But when Klaus accepts his decision, he wonders if it’s that simple.

@Matty, I still haven't forgiven the CW for ending TVD + TSC so early in November. While, everything else on the roster ended in December.
