I don't think that's something that can be judged. I would argue that it has been very well-received. She has seen good album sales, some of her singles have performed well, she has been popular with nominations and awards. You can't base the general public on the number of people who buy singles or albums. This album earned her the respect of my parents, and of many of my friends. Just yesterday, a friend of mine who once loved Just Dance, Poker Face and Bad Romance, but generally disliked Gaga overall said:
"I don't like any of her stuff that isn't on the new album anymore. It's so basic compared to what she's doing now. I'm just bored of it. I can see myself liking You and I (his favourite) and Marry The Night for a long time."
Also, a whole group of people I know who have always hated Gaga's music love You and I
Exactly. This era has spawned 30+ awards, three Grammy nominations, 5.5 million album sales, 25+ million records sales, so how is that underperforming or not well-received? People are judging solely on singles, because that's the only way you can say she's underperforming. I mean, sure, the impact wasn't as massive as "The Fame Monster", but that was expected. There's no way you can say she's underperformed when the album is the second highest-selling. There's no logic.
That's why BTW went #1, TEOG became a big radio hit, Y&I did pretty well, her special received huge ratings, etc. xD It's not about the GP not liking her. The GP doesn't like anyone in particular. All they want is catchy music. Not obtaining #1 singles =/= public disliking her.

Exactly. They can't come for her album sales, her tours, her talent, her cultural AND political impacts, her awards, how every award she appears has huge ratings, or how she's critical acclaimed ect. It's all about these TWO underperformed singles. I mean, it's not like she's the first major popstar who has flop singles.

"California King Bed" and "Man Down" both happened this year but the Navy isn't questioning the success of the Loud Era.
Britney hit #1 in the US ten years after her debut, but she's been massive.

I don't agree.
The Fame : Woah, she's hot & weird! Her songs are amazing!
The Fame Monster : She's amazing! Her performance are wonderful!

Born This Way : Even though I dislike her outfits alot of times, I will always have MAJOR MAJOR respect for Lady Gaga as an artist, vocalist, songwriter and especially as a performer... this woman is so ****ing talented is unbelieveable. She has it all
With the BTW Era she gained a lot of consideration and respect from adults people I know!
I agreed. No one would say "Oh my God Lady Gaga has an amazing voice!" listening to Poker Face, Love Game, or Telephone ect. But I know some will said so listening to Born This Way, The Edge of Glory, or You and I.
