For those who aren’t familiar, ‘Mona Lisa’ is Britney’s alter ego she adopted in 2004. She served as an outlet for Britney to explore her more dangerous side, primarily in terms of her creative and musical output. She helped Britney take risks, be bossy, and gain certain control over her image and career. ‘Mona Lisa’ wound up in darkness, expressing sadness and dissatisfaction, indicating that Britney was troubled long before she was making headlines for her ‘crazy’ behavior.
When listening to ‘Mona Lisa,’ a track she premiered in late 2004 planned to be featured on her fifth album at the time, I get the creeps. From today’s perspective, it becomes very clear just how desperately Britney wished to reinvent herself and how badly she wanted a normal life. As well as ‘Rebellion’ and in a way ‘Someday,’ it seems prophetic. (She wrote ‘Someday’ shortly before she found out she was pregnant.)
They seem like they were a cry for help. She was writing about all the things she was going trough and the songs were like predictions that came through. ‘Mona Lisa’ and ‘Rebellion’ are some of her darkest and rawest tracks yet, and they talk directly about selling your soul, rebirth, people using her, manipulating her, and about how she was going to fight against it. She eerily foreshadowed most aspects of her battle with the spotlight and industry pressure. This proves how intuitive and intelligent she is, and that’s knows more than people think.
MONA LISA:
Quote:
This is a story about Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa
Ladies and gentlemen
I've got a little story to tell
About Mona Lisa and how she suddenly fell
Now see everyone knew her, they knew her oh so well
Now I am taking over
To release her from her spell
She's the original
She's unforgettable
She wants you to know
She's been cloned
It's kind of incredible
She's so unpredictable
She wants you to know
She's been cloned
She's been cloned
She's been cloned
She was taken under
Drowning in her sea
Running like an angel
She was crying but could not see
Now see everyone's watching
As she starts to fall
They want her to breakdown
To be a legend of the fall
Ladies, does that make you cry?
Mona Lisa's got to fly
Nobody really dies
Everyone, may we have a moment of silence, right here?
God?
REBELLION:
Quote:
Be wary of others
The ones closest to you
The poison they feed you
And that voodoo that they do
But in rebellion
There's a sparkle of truth
Don't just stand there
Do what you got to do
You'll find it in rebellion
You'll finally start breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebelling
You'll find it so compelling
With everyone yelling
'Cause your soul, you're not selling
'Cause you're rebelling
SOMEDAY:
Quote:
Nothing seems to be the way, that it used to
Everything seems shallow, God, give me truth, in me
And tell me somebody's watching, over me
And that is all I'm praying's that
Someday I will understand, in God's whole plan
And what He's done to me, but maybe
Someday I will breathe, then I'll finally see
I'll see it all in my baby
Don't you run too fast my dear, why don't you stop
Just stop and listen to your tears, they're all you've got
It's in you, see somebody's watching, over you
And that is all I'm praying is that
Someday you will understand, in God's whole plan
And what He does to you, but maybe
Someday you will breathe, and you'll finally see
You'll see it all in your baby, you'll see it all in your baby
No moment will be more true
Than the moment I look at you
I noticed that long ago. At times I find it difficult to listen to 'Mona Lisa' because it's so haunting and reflects her life so much. Even more haunting because she wrote it herself, as if she predicted her out come long before it happened. People who think she can't write music clearly doesn't know ****. Also, she appears bald in a interlude on the DWAD tour and we unfortunately saw that become a reality as well.
It's just crazy how life can emulate art. Britney also has a lot of similarities with Marilyn Monroe more than any other celebrity. Fortunately, she was able to turn her life around before it ended tragically.
I honestly believe something eery is going on behind closed doors. Call me a conspiracist but it's blatant. I'm not talking about that Illuminati ******** but something like it, idk.
Early morning, she wakes up
Knock, knock, knock on the door
It's time for make-up, perfect smile
It's you they're all waiting for
They go,
"Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?"
And they say, She's so lucky, she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?
Lost in an image, in a dream
But there's no one there to wake her up
And the world is spinning, and she keeps on winning
But tell me what happens when it stops?
They go,
"Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?"
Isn't she lucky, this Hollywood girl?
She is so lucky, but why does she cry?
If there's nothing missing in her life
Why do tears come at night?
