I disagree. Their performance might be mediocre; however, I think Judas is better than Telephone. So...I refuse to call Judas and any other BTW single worse than Telephone.
It's not 'too late' for the album to "gain" anything.
If the right song is picked at the right moment with according promotion, a BTW can smash. Oh, and she has to step up the likability of her music videos (for the average 4 minute maximum attention span of the iTunes generation).
