It completely scares me to think that people care about their own material wants and luxuries more than making sure everyone has FOOD and a HOME.

Everyone having a roof to live under is already nearly impossible.
It'll be horrifying to see how badly we damage the Earth over the next century. It upsets me so much

We'll keep going until the Earth's carrying capacity really gets exceeded, and we'll have to deal with the millions of people dying or starvation while few live comfortably.

Not necessarily. The population could well even out within the next few decades.

Why do I feel like it's always the 3 of us in a thread?

And in response to the topic, I'm doing my part. No babies will come out of this body, ever. So my 2.3 allotted babies for our carrying capacity can go to another woman and even it out.

We're gonna hit 10Billy by 2050. We're in the middle of an inverse exponential curve. We've shot up over the past 100 years, but we're only at the midway point of our population growth

We're the ones who genuinely care enough
Although I wasn't around for the last few topics

Not THIS thread, but any thread. Here, Random Thoughts, NHB, so on. I feel like the 3 of us are usually pretty close

Ah!
Our interests are mostly similar?
We're usually just on here around the same time, and I enjoy your contribution to any thread, so I enjoy to contribute as well (same to you GeoKing, mostly )
Except for the borders between Born This Way and Femme Fatale. We rarely cross those

It's not quite as simple as following a graph, you have to look at the factors behind it. Most of the recent growth has come from places like India and China, first would countries have seen their population level off due to better standards of living etc.
The question will be if the increasing wealth of India and China can keep up with their increasing population. If it does, the world population may level off or at least slow down. If not, then things could get nasty.

I haven't looked at the stats in a while, but does Africa as a continent still have outrageous birthrate numbers? If so, what can be done there realistically?

To me, it's essentially following a graph. We keep increasing, slowly leveling off as the earth can't support as many people.
However, I agree with your socio-economic assessment.
I think that the wealth in China may be dispersed evenly (depending on if they finally hope the fence over to capitalism or not). tbh capitalism in China could be the worst thing to ever happen to that country. As horrible as the Communist regime is there, the farming communities will starve and make no money while the business people in urban centers will prosper if Capitalism is introduced. People will start flocking to urban centers and uh oh... we have overcrowding that's bad even for China.
As for India, I foresee a semi-large income gap getting even larger. It'll end up a slum in most areas, with few rich communities.

This reminds me. I once had someone tell me they're afraid the population will get too high, and we'll weigh the earth down and fall out of orbit.

I'm an extremely selfish person so I don't care about population control since I'll be long dead when it actually becomes a problem.

I guess that's not too awful.

I used to feel that way about a lot of stuff. I mainly used it as an excuse to not care about the environment, animals, etc. and to seem edgy.
However, you'll reach a point where you realize that you truly care for your fellow man, past present or future.
I recycle now, I work for a company that treats humans, animals, and the environment well with amazing ethical policies, and I actively behave as a global citizen, and as a powerful citizen with a powerful voice.
You won't feel that way forever, is all I'm saying

Africa is usually left out of conversations like this, one because its population is dwarfed by that of India and China, and two because Africa uses a lot less resources due to widespread poverty. We do need to keep Africa on our dashboards, but I've even seen some predictions that the population there will drop in the next couple of decades (not for the right reasons...)

But its not like that at all. History has proven time and time again things don't just follow linear trend.

China practices a very, very, loose version of communism. I hope they become a true democracy soon and allow freedom of press etc., I dislike the idea of a future superpower without these values.

I don't see anything wrong with overpopulated countries imposing a child limit. Try passing something like that in the US, though, and see how that turns out. I think this is a problem we can do nothing about. We'll keep having babies until there is no more room.

I'm trying to think of something in history that's been linear, and I can't. You win.
They still attempt to evenly-distribute goods and services I believe, and under capitalism that would all be gone.
Russia was a superpower that was far more strict than China is now. If they feel like they can still operate that way, they will

You realize people don't just have babies and put them on the shelf forever, right? people grow old and die.
