I can't believe the denial in the last few pages before this one. It is not racist to point out that Eminem's success cannot be separated from his race.
While Eminem is a talented rapper, far more talented rapers have gone unnoticed or received far less notice than he has. Like Pat Boone, Elvis Presley and other White American artists of the past,
Eminem puts a comfortable face on rap for people who might not be inclined to enjoy the same music or personal antics from an African American or a Latino performer. There are many people who (without any sense of irony) will tell you that they dislike hip hop except for Eminem.
Eminem's large degree of success can be attributed to
both his raw talent (pioneered internal rhyming) and the fact that he is a White artist in a predominately African American genre.
Few took note of Eminem's lyrical mastery in his earlier albums, his early sucess was due to his
lyrical shock gimmicks, including but not limited to pop artist diss tracks, raping his mother, murdering his wife etc (The Marshall Mathers LP).
Yes Eminem is successful, but he'd be nowhere near as successful if he were black.
It's still Jay-Z for this one. He built an empire from nothing, and is one of the most respected rappers of all time
