Call me crazy, but I think #3 was a good peak for TEOG. It had great longevity and went on to do just fine WW without a good video. I have confidence that this era has taught her a lot about managing her music and career and the next era will be even better. In fact, MTN has been going splendidly so far, so maybe she has already learned her lesson.

She could have done better though if she released TEOG at a later date, imo. Judas and You And I were unnecessary.

I'm not blaming anything on the video. I'm just saying her releasing it at a different time and a better video would have had it do better.

I think she was trying to save her ass with TEOG. She went from risky Judas to safe TEOG and it worked somehow.

Gotta give the girl some respect, though. Born This Way is arguably the most riskiest album within the last few years. Majority of it is completely experiential and far from popular bubblegum pop. Even Hair and Marry the Night, two of the most radio-friendly songs, are very experimental. Hair has the jazz-influences and Marry the Night is very traditional house inspired. And then of course TEOG is basically electroROCK mixed with a saxophone. Bruce Springsteen meets mainstream synth.
