Yes, they are definitely artists, but I can't remember producers in the past ever asking for this much name-exposure. They've always been behind-the-scenes people so it's interesting how they want features all of the sudden.

If you refuse to acknowledge the distinction between a recognised dance artist collaborating with a pop artist and professional production ie Dr Luke, then there's no point in discussing this. Sounds like you made up your mind well before you made this thread and you're not actually interested in hearing out anything that differs from your own opinion.

That's why they have Producing credits. Feature credits are for singers, as is the main artist credit. What's next, You Da One (feat. Ester Dean, Lukasz Gottwald, John Hill, and Henry Walter)?

The only situation I see when this is okay is something like Guetta's album. But even then, it's not Turn Me On (feat. David Guetta), it's Turn Me On (feat. Nicki Minaj) because its his album. But We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) is just stupid.

Calvin Harris is a solo artist. Just like Skrillex, DeadMau5, etc. They are signed to record labels, and are therefore more than "just producers."

You don't have to sing to be a solo artist.

I think its silly tbh...I understand that Guetta, Calvin Harris and Afrojack are solo acts but to the general public they arent in the song at all...no reason to be featured, then you have a bunch of people thinking they dont have the right song because some guy named Calvin Harris is saying anything...Without You, Turn Me On and Where Dem Girls At are Usher, Nicki and Flo-rida's new songs in the public's eyes but Guetta is a producers who released an album, so technically he's the lead artist...Calvin Harris and Afrojack seem to just want the exposure for their own brand which is ridiculous

Edit: Before anybody tries the dance thing, i understand it completely. Calvin Harris is more justified than Afrojack and Guetta imo...Calvin's production in WFL was damn near 50/50 with Rihanna's vocals and the writers' lyrics so I can understand that...GME's highlight wasnt its production...

Who the **** cares if the general public is confused because their major pop artist is attached to someone else? It was their choice to work with David Guetta or Calvin Harris. Both of them are recording artists and deserve credit.

I don't really care what genre of music it is, producers should never be features.

Either you're the main artist (i.e. songs from Guetta's album) or you stick with your producing credits and sit.
