Paul Grein needs to stick to the charts, because his Grammy predictions are laughable. Pink Friday is not even close to being a contender for AOTY.

They've been holding him to such high regards since like the 80s. I googled some of his predictions from the 80s and 90s, which are archived on LA Times, and
Some of his predictions are on point, but it seems like he goes for what's hot on his grandkids iPod in some categories.

To be fair, Kanye also submitted his album to Pop Album, where he was snubbed. If he would have gotten the nomination, maybe - just maybe - he could have gotten an AOTY nomination in the wake of Taylorgate. But I doubt it.

GRAMMY Awards 2012: Album Of The Year Predictions BY: ENRICO BRUNO
The end of the year is quickly approaching and you know what that means: GRAMMY nominees will be announced soon!
This year, the nominations will be announced during a live concert event, where artists like Rihanna, The Band Perry, and Usher will perform. The concert isn't taking place until November 30th at 10pm, which gives us less than two weeks to speculate on who will be nominated.
Of all the main categories, the award for Album of the Year is by far the most prestigious. Awarded to timeless albums like Michael Jackson's Thriller, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the award is the ultimate form of recognition for an artist.
So before the real nominations come out, let's take a look at 12 albums released during the contention period that have the best odds of being nominated. (Note: elegibility period for the 2012 GRAMMY Awards was from October 1, 2010 until September 30, 2011.)
Taylor Swift - Speak Now
T. Swift had a crazy 2009-2010. She broke into the mainstream with her sophomore album Fearless, played a key part in (further) ruining Kanye West's reputation, won a GRAMMY for Album of the Year, and apparently got her heart broken a few times. She channeled all these highs and lows in her 2010 album Speak Now. The album sold over 1 million copies in its first week and is still one of the best-selling albums of 2011. On the album, Taylor sings about her break-up with John Mayer ("Dear John"), her critics ("Mean"), and the infamous Kanye mic-snatching incident ("Innocent"). And she does it all on her own -- Swift wrote every single song by herself. Which is quite the feat, since Speak Now is one of the best-written albums in years.
Why It Could Get Nominated: Considering her 2010 win for Album of the Year, it seems that GRAMMY voters like Taylor. The album was also a rare combination of critical and commerical success. Plus, country music has a bigger presence in the music scene these days and Speak Now is just country enough to bring the genre into music's biggest night.
Why It Might Not: Considering her 2010 win for Album of the Year, it's unlikely that she'll win the biggest award of the night again, which is a little upsetting since Speak Now is the better, more-deserving album. There was even some backlash over her win, and she ended up not getting any nominations at the 2011 award show (although "Mine" was expected to at least get a Country Female Vocal nomination). She'll be nominated for some major awards this year, but maybe not for Album of the Year.
Adele - 21
Adele's 21 is all but guaranteed to get an Album of the Year nomination, and may even take home the big prize. Released in the US in late February, 21 proved to be a bigger hit than anyone expected. Upon it's release, 21 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts and has since clocked a whopping thirteen weeks at the top. 38 weeks after its release, the album currently sits in the #5 position, its lowest spot yet. It's the best-selling album of the year (4.4 million), was met with critical acclaim, and has spawned two massive #1 singles, "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." Adele has also garnered a reputation of being a top-notch live performer, which only makes her even more appreciated by fans and GRAMMY voters.
Why It Could Get Nominated: See above. And also remember that Adele already won three GRAMMYs in the past, including Best New Artist in 2009. She writes the kind of music that everyone can relate to and doesn't really seem to isolate any voters unlike other artists.
Why It Might Not: Don't worry, it will.
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
One of the most hotly-anticipated albums of the year, the release of Lady Gaga's second full-length studio album was preceded by a lot of hype. Gaga called the album "the album of the decade" and the lead single was dubbed the new gay anthem by Elton John. In the end, Born This Way was an overall success, as it sold 1 million copies in its first week and received mostly good reviews.
Why It Could Get Nominated: Gaga was nominated in the category two years ago for The Fame and again last year... for an EP. Her star power is undeniable, so she may get the nomination based on the strength of her persona rather than the strength of the album.
Why It Might Not: While many critics liked the album, others pointed out its many flaws: incomprehensible lyrics, a uniformity of sound, and an insultingly-obvious pandering to the 'outsider' audience (especially homosexuals). And even more criticism was directed at her label's marketing campaign of selling the album for only .99 cents on its first day of release. Sure it sold 1 million in a week, but a large percentage of those sales were based on the Amazon deal, which many people frowned upon. Also, while the singles did well enough on the charts, they didn't quite match the pre-release hype.
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Released in late November of 2010, Kanye West's 5th studio album set a new standard for rap albums. Moody, grandiose, and filled with sharp, biting lyrics, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasyproved that Kanye has the right to brag about how amazing he is. Accompanied by a 45-minute music video for "Runaway" (and several other album tracks) and featuring artists like Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, Jay-Z, and Rihanna, Fantasy is a rap album of epic proportions that may be the best in West's very impressive discography.
Why It Could Get Nominated: Kanye scored Album of the Year nominations for three of his albums (The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation), giving him a pretty good track record in the category. And Fantasy is the best-reviewed album in the 2010-2011 cycle.
Why It Might Not: Kanye has voiced his low opinion of the GRAMMY Awards in the past. And his status as one of the most-hated entertainers around may isolate him from some voters. Also, the album lacked a huge hit single, and although it was a critical success by most standards, it didn't prove to have the staying power of other big albums this year.
Beyoncé - 4
While most of the press about Beyoncé at the moment is focused on her baby bump, the singer also released a critically-acclaimed album during this GRAMMY cycle. While it wasn't quite as big a commercial hit as her previous albums, it did spawn the modest hit "Best Thing I Never Had" and lead to some memorable live performances ("Run the World (Girls)" at the Billboard Music Awards, "Love on Top" at the VMAs).
Why It Could Get Nominated: Because it's a Beyoncé album. She got five nominations apiece for her first two albums and six for 2008's I Am... Sasha Fierce. You can always expect some GRAMMY love for Ms. Knowles.
Why It Might Not: However, 4 is also less successful than her other three albums and has already been forgotten by many mainstream music fans. After the disappointing lead single "Run The World (Girls)" was largely ignored by the world, Beyoncé failed to get a bona fide hit from the album. Critics did love the slow R&B torchers though, so maybe this album is better-suited for the Best R&B Album category.
Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
After a debut album full of mournful, guitar-driven tunes, Bon Iver released their second album this year to critical acclaim (it has a score of 86 on Metacritic). Grander, more diverse, and more layered than their debut, the album was mostly a showcase for lead singer Justin Vernon, whose versatile voice moves from his signature falsetto to a deep bass effortlessly. The album was even commercially successful by indie standards, debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200.
Why It Could Get Nominated: We know the GRAMMYs like to show some love for the indie scene each year in one of the major awards and Bon Iver, Bon Iver was certainly one of the best indie albums of the year. It's critical success is almost unparalleled and appearances on late night talk shows and music blogs helped bring the album to the mainstream.
Why It Might Not: But is it too unknown? While past GRAMMY-winning indie bands were by no means commercial juggernauts (Arcade Fire, The White Stripes), they were a little bit more known to the masses. While it's more deserving than most albums that will get nominated, it may just fly under the radar at this year's award show.
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Foo Fighters released their seventh album in April, when it became the band's first #1 US album. Lead singer David Grohl described the album as a return to their hard rock roots that were abandoned on their last album. And it wasn't only a commercial success, as critics lauded the music and the songwriting, making it yet another critically-acclaimed album in the Foo Fighters discography.
Why It Could Get Nominated: There were few other rock releases this year that could get nominated for the big prize. And GRAMMY voters do like Foo Fighters -- all six of their studio albums have been nominated for Best Rock Album (and three have won) and they have garnered 16 GRAMMY nominations total.
Why It Might Not: Like other albums on the list, the album isn't as mainstream as other releases, and that does seem to be a factor when it comes to the awards show. (Remember when the Black Eyed Peas somehow got an Album of the Year nomination?)
Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops & Hooligans
We were first introduced to the soulful voice of Bruno Mars when he was featured on B.o.B.'s "Nothin' On You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire." He followed up these guest appearances with "Just The Way You Are," the first single from 2010's Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The song found heavy rotation on radio and reached the #1 spot on the Hot 100. But he proved to be more than a one-hit-wonder, as the follow-up single "Grenade" also reached the top spot. Although the album received mixed review from critics, he still was regarded as an act to watch.
Why It Could Get Nominated: He's exactly the kind of artist the GRAMMYs love. He has an old-school vibe while still being commercially relevant in the mainstream market. He also got nominated last year for "Just The Way You Are" and his work as a guest artist on "Nothin' On You" and Cee-Lo's "F*ck You."
Why It Might Not: This album suffers from a case of bad timing. Released in early October of 2010, it came out just after last year's cut-off date and by now feels aged. While the third single "The Lazy Song" was a success (peaking at #4), the album has faded from the spotlight and may be forgotten by GRAMMY voters.
Honorable Mentions
Rihanna, Loud - Hey, Katy Perry got nominated last year, so why not Rihanna? Loud spawned several hit singles and is still holding strong on the Billboard Album charts.
Cee-Lo Green, The Lady Killer - Like Doo-Wops & Hooligans, this album came out just after last year's cut-off, hurting its chances to get nominated. But lead single "F*ck You" scored several huge nominations last year (Record of the Year, Song of the Year), so maybe it still has a shot.
Allison Krauss & Union Station, Paper Airplane - She's the most awarded GRAMMY singer ever, so I had to put her on this list.
Foster the People, Torches - The strength of "Pumped Up Kicks" may be enough to get Foster the People the indie nomination. (Kind of how "Need You Now" led to Lady Antebellum's Album of the Year nomination last year.)

I think Duets II will be snubbed in the general field but still rack up two genre nominations.

I've changed my mind about Taylor Swift.
I think she is totally being nominated for Album of the Year.

I think so too. She has been getting at lot of awards lately and since October her buzz has been increasing a lot. Perfect timing for her to get an AOTY nomination IMO.

I like the analysis DG1 posted from Musicology.
It looks way more realistic & thought-out than the Paul Grein one.
I mean... Pink Friday & Super Bass.... really?
