I think you are misconstruing the point of that post.
WFL is similar to OG. There's no denying it. However, there are differences that make the two distinct. Also, of course TTT is more urban and reggae than LOUD, but does that mean that there is growth? No, that just means there's a different sound.
Just because someone wrote or co-wrote a song does not mean there's growth either, at least not necessarily.
Now, trust me, I enjoy TTT much more than LOUD. Most people do.
When I said there was no
real growth, I'm saying: TTT is an upgraded version of LOUD. It's more cohesive, less scatter-brained (though, it is still scattered, varied). There are the same elements in TTT that were in LOUD, except that it's better.
Think of it this way. If you take an exam, and you get a score of 70 of 100. Then you were given say a week to look over the exam and 8 days following the day you took the exam the first time you take the exam again. Would the likelihood of you having a higher score be high?
I'm stating that Rihanna has found a formula that works. She's found her
niche (a distinct market segment). Who else in the pop world makes the kind of dance music that Rihanna does and captures it the same way Rihanna can? What other artist can combine reggae/urban influences INTO a dance/pop track the way Rihanna does? Rihanna's image is all about BIG dance songs that are suggestive, and in some cases, "in-your-face" and explicit. That's her niche.
Therefore, she can stay successful by merely improving the product that she's been selling since arguably GGGB (though you could say that RR was a complete curveball in the sequence). She then returned with LOUD and now with TTT. She could only augment her success by following up with another album in the future that is only an improved version of TTT while still keeping the same elements that the aforementioned albums have. Her fans and the market she appeals to will buy it anyway.
