Rihanna is never going to be heavily choreographed performer so if that is the type of performer you like then look to the Britneys, Janets and Beyonces etc. Let Rihanna do Rihanna.
I went to LOUD Tour on Sunday ( first live performance of We Found Love ) and she was amazing. The crowd was wild all the time, she sang LIVE, and she sang well. She was energetic throughout, interacted with the audience and left people saying 'wow, that was so good.' So, yep, she does have stage presence
coming from someone who's actually seen her LIVE ON STAGE therefore can comment on her STAGE PRESENCE.
Well since this is already a comparison thread about who has more stage presence, I don't see the problem in bringing up Beyoncé. And why not use the best example to set the standard.
Well if you feel like comparing beyonce to rihanna on their performing skills go right ahead
Mariah's live shows enjoyment, doesn't come from her vocals anymore!!....it is from the fans love and amazing songs, her stage presece was always very very low, but at the beggining her stage presence was her voice, now it's the relation between her fans, plus that she still has a lovely voice of course...talking about Rihanna i can see an effort from her trying to sing while not being gifted like Mariah and, as a singers THEY ARE, i prefer someone selling me her voice/talent whatever the vocal talent is, than selling me a nice smile and an intimidating glance AND NO MORE! (that's cool if you previously make a live vocal performance)
It still doesn't change the fact that Mariah is a vocalist, Rihanna is a entertainer (using that word very loosely) vocalists like Mariah aren't here to present you with dancing and a tremendous amount of presence on stage. Mariah has the fan base she has because it build up to that because of what she's contributed over the years, she has nothing to prove. Rihanna still does and as I said earlier, it's just too early for her to be as lazy as she is. It hasn't even been a decade yet. And her fan base isn't as big as a Britney, Beyonce or Gaga. Rihanna NEEDS to step up her performances because who's to say the fans will still be there years down the line like the fans are still here for Mariah.
Why do some people have major problems with others liking Rihanna's vocals, her performances and her songs? It seems every where I go on ATRL there is someone ala VIN who seem to make it their life work to condemn Rihanna and her fans who prefer her over music artists. You really ought to get a life and stop worrying about what others prefer or like and why they are not in line with your perspective of things.
To answer your question
Rihanna has stage presence
She is a good singer...a very good singer
Rihanna performances and songs are not forgettable
If you disagree then you can kindly go and jump in the lake and cool off!
Another thing, a lot of people will claim that Rihanna has no stage presence, that her performances are boring but they will watch them again and again and they won't be able to tell you what the dancers were wearing because they their eyes are glued on Rihanna. What does that tell you?
There is nothing wrong with liking Rihanna. Some of her songs are cute and her personality is a kii. There is something wrong with thinking she is talented. The Navy gives her too much credit.

So that's The Navy's defense? Because judging from the countless televised
performances and youtube clips is not enough to determine whether an
artist has stage presence? You have to see them live? C'mon, now.

She has vocals.
I don't know why everyone thinks to be a singer you must have Mariah or pre-crack Whitney vocals.
Mariah Carey's powerhouse vocals, makes up for her lack of dancing & being stuck like a statue on stage because of skin tight clothing.
Britney's dancing skills & amazing choreography makes up for her lack of vocal strength.
Rihanna's cookiness & rockstar attitude on stage makes up for her lack of vocals & choreography while performing.
They all have their strengths + weaknesses.
That's kinda all there is to it. Rih's personality is what makes her music and shows a blast (supposedly. Never been to one) although she's not the best vocalist or dancer. I'd probably put Katy Perry in the same boat.
Mariah is a damn vocalist. She does not need to be brought up with these entertainers. Nor do you have to resort to such attacks.
That's what i'm talking about!...you don't have to have the "Britney type of stage presence" to actually have stage presence...there's some people who love Britney kind of shows, wich don't give anything to me, at the other extremse we have Mariah wich only stage presence was her voice, wich is a stage presence i really value, and there are artist like Beyonce/Madonna who are equal in both aspects, there are artist like Xtina who have more vocals, then Rihanna...etc...So at the end there are different factors (singing quality, dance quality, songs, interaction etc) for every people to make a final sums and decide if that artist has stage presece for them.

Get outta' here with that, man.

You can't really say Ke$ha or Britney have stage presence until you see them alive, and that's the true tea.
I know people who were watching GMA on March 29 and were laughing at that mess Britney did, but changed their mind when they went to the FFT.

I think because automatically when you see a live show, the experience overtakes you. It always does for me when I see Britney. That doesn't change that performances like in the promotional rounds for Femme Fatale are terrible. (EDIT: Which in each and everyone, she exuded great presence and command.)

Agree with the first part...the second part about what Rihanna "needs" we don't really know, she's doing pretty amazing just the way she is, let's see what happends...you can always grow as an artist though.
