what y'all think
Quote:
My theory on MARRY THE NIGHT:
There's a lot to it so I'll try to keep it organized..
What I mean when I say
Not appreciating - Attempting suicide
Main Plot (note that this is IN HER LIFE's plot, i'm not assuming the music video plot): Marry the Night's first [biographical sequenced, not lyrical] meaning was marrying death (attempting suicide). The meaning of "marrying the night" changed when she went back to NY while famous. Now she doesn't understand how she was gonna leave (suicide) what she misses so much today.
RECAPITULATION OF MAIN PLOT: Marry the Night has a double meaning. To go commit suicide, or to go back to New York.
Lines:
| "I won't give up on my life."
It's about not dying in the past (when she tried to), and how she'll never attempt it again. Again, the double meaning; she won't give up on New York, and she can't believe she tried to when she LIVED there.
| "I'm a soldier to my, own emptiness, i'm a winner"
She didn't die when she tried to kill herself. She was meant for New York. AGAIN, double meaning; Fame is her emptiness, New York is a battle won. She didn't have to fight it when she attempted to kill herself (she lived there), now she appreciates (shocked that she even attempted suicide) New York because she isn't there as much.
| The whole second verse is the double meaning:
Going back to New York, appreciating what she had their. Would never want to take herself away from it.
MAIN LINE:
"Skeleton gun are wedding bells in the attic"
-Theme: Death. "Skeleton" "Wedding Bells"
-Symbols: Bells - Memory | Attic - Her mind | Guns: Suicide item
= Suicide is a memory
In depth of main line: WEDDING Bells are her *marrying the night* (death) or what she hears before she dies
So Marry the Night is basically about her attempt to suicide, she hates that she tried it because she loves New York. She is mad at herself for not appreciating (attempting suicide) New York when she lived there. Now that she appreciates it, she's gonna do as much as she can to go back to it as much as possible. It makes no sense (to herself) that she tried to take herself away from New York when now New York is all she wants to go back to. Which is what connects with her "hating the past". She hates that she didn't appreciate what she misses so much now. She hates that she would do something so dumb. Now that she is back to New York (not as much as before), she would never try to take herself away from it again. She will only go back there and celebrate it.
Sorry about wording if it confuses you!
*NOTE: THIS IS ONLY MY THEORY, IT IS UNCONFIRMED*
