Janet is very iconic. She has songs like "Nasty" & "Rhythm Nation" -- the latter's era even influencing her brother Michael. Janet has an iconic Rolling Stone cover that is today still copied & one or more of her albums make various All-Time Rolling Stone & Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame lists. She is known as a captivating performer who has most visibly influenced the likes of Britney Spears and helped widen the lane for various dancer-singers. Janet has made an impact on the dance world, influencing a whole generation of dancers to find inspiration in her iconic dances (Rhythm Nation, If). She has really solidified herself in pop culture, and although her nipple accident has muddled it (while simultaneously contributing to it), she is working to making a successful comeback with her brand as a touring artist.
At the moment Janet is more iconic than Beyonce, but Beyonce is not so easily suffocated by Janet's status. Beyonce has etched her own marks in history and when all is said and done, she might be able to surpass Janet. But to really think Beyonce is more iconic now when Janet still has things that endure longer than Beyonce's whole career (DC included) is just silly.
Let's get serious here people.
Thanks for defending me in the other thread, but I'm bout to drag you.
Janet Jackson is only more successful than Beyonce because she has been around longer. Janet can barely sing. Beyonce has one of the greatest voices of our generation. If she was that ****ing great than why has the only musical success she's gotten in the past few years due to her brother passing away. If Conrad Murray's dumb ass didn't bring that propofol out, Janet's ass wouldn't of beena t the 2009 VMA's. She would've been home doing the nasty things she always says she does in her songs. You know you're falling when you are thriving off of someone else's success. Janet is a legend. I respect that. But god damnit, Beyonce is too and is far more deserving of such a status.
What musical success has Janet had since Michael died? She hasn't even released an album since 2008
But it's clear none of you really know what it means to be iconic. Being iconic is not about charts, it's not about awards, it's not about sales. It's about a recognizable "image" the general public associates with you. Janet has been giving icon since she was in her 20s.
The "It's Janet, Ms. Jackson if you're nasty" line has integrated itself into pop culture.

People are still quoting this line 26 years later.
Then Janet's most iconic work to date is STILL being parodied:
Happy Feet 2
Stereo Rhythm performs RN on X-Factor USA
And that's not even all of iconic images that era produced.
Years later, Janet matched herself with the iconic Rolling Stone cover:
Which was later parodied MANY times over including a president's daughter herself:
Then yet again Janet created the iconic, and still the most expensive video to date, "Scream", which later gave birth to the futuristic and space video trend:
Even the most controversial moment in sports history produced another iconic image:

It's such a shame that many of you are so blind to what this woman has done. I love Beyonce, and the reality is that the only iconic thing she's done to date is "Single Ladies". Continuing to let Janet's last three albums perpetuate your ignorance of Janet's impact will only make you look stupid at the end of the day.
WHO THE **** ARE U TO SAY WHO IS DESERVING OF SOMETHING THEY WORKED THEIR ASSES FOR ..SEE THIS IS WHY I ...... imma stop ..i'm not gonna let this happen .I love beyonce ....i love beyonce (keeps chanting to take out the negative beyhive)
