i was talking about btw album digital record, which stands at 600k+ and by far the fastest selling digital album in history... an honour which is frankly doesn't deserve.
btw got its records for sure. but btw album doesn't, not without amazon at least. did it break any records without amazon? and by "record", i mean "all time record".

Adele, then Gaga. Try and discredit Gaga's success all you want, but BTW broke records and the album sold 1M first week US and 2M first week WW.

Darren was clearly referring to the single, and I told you the NUMEROUS records it broke.
We all know 440K came from Amazon in the album's first week, but again I don't get your point.

Adele, Katy and then Gaga.
People 'trying' to shade Katy Perry....
Succesful tour, several weeks at #1, breaking records, digital longevity and dominating radio, one of top 10 best selling album of the year, nominated for most important awards (winning Video Of The Year)....

Beyonce the queen of 2007? You have got to be kidding me The only true success she had was from a song that rolled over from 2006
|
Irreplaceable was #1 for 12 weeks on the world chart still, and it was the best selling single of 2007.

2007 with Beyonce was a bit of a stretch, but it's definitely not Rihanna. All Rihanna really did was Umbrella, because her album really didn't get bigger until 2008, and was overshadowed by Britney
|
Be quiet. Rihanna was the BIGGEST female artist in 2008 easily. Britney didn't overshadow her as Britney didn't even go Platinum, or had a #1 single. She got the Grammy and swept the AMAs winning Pop Female Artist and R&B Female Artist of the Year. I could go on and on.

Just STOP.
2007 was Beyonce's year... The Experience Tour, Irreplaceable, Beautiful Liar, B'Day Rerelease, The Video Anthology... Beyonce owned.
2008 Britney made her comeback and everybody was waiting for her to arrive. Interns lost jobs over her single. Circus which peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 wasnt a success? Or the fact that she sold out her ENTIRE Circus Tour in less than a month (DECEMBER 2008)? If U Seek Amy stirred up controversy... and she went Gold her first week. She turned her life around and her fans stood by her. THATS OWNING.

my point is that 1 short-lived successful single and 1 week of massive album sales is not enough for being the queen of 2011. find my first post on the first page. i think it explain the 2011 pyramid better

I am a Beyonce fan myself, but saying she owned 2007 is reaching.
And I just noticed you're a Bey stan, and I don't discuss music with Bey stans so bye

Britney didn't really overshadow anyone in 2008. Circus (the album) was a huge dissapointment even to fans, the media started to get tired of talking about her. Her commercial success was moderate at best.
Ohhh and I forgot 2010. Definitely not Gaga's year. The vast majority of her success was in 2009 so no.
|
2008... Britney's Circus album is one of her best reviewed albums to date so just STOP with that ********. Till this day the media isnt tired of talking about Britney. Look around this forum!!
I do not see how you can possibly talk about moderate commercial success when trying to argue Rihanna. Her ENTIRE career is moderate success made up of avast majority of $.99/1.29 singles.
2009-2010 were definitely GaGa's. She has the MOST SUCCESSFUL DEBUT ARENA TOUR for a newcomer all thanks to her MASSIVE 2009-2010 Monster Ball Tour. She ended 2010 with nothing but Top 10 Hit singles to under her belt. (The lowest peaking single being #6). GaGa did everything and was everywhere on God's green earth in the span of those 2 years. Who was on that Time MOST INFLUENTIAL list? GaGa. Who did every Vogue magazine under the sun? GaGa. The Meat Dress? The 2010 VMA SWEEP? The GaGa Grammy Rule? The perfomance after performance with Legend and Icon after Legend and Icon?

Rihanna was the queen of 2007 (I have doubts with 2008). And she will be the queen of next year. Period.
