There are very few people who bought the single that won't buy the album; either you love a boyband or your hate them. That's just what 1D are, and they're pretty much the biggest thing in the UK right now.
The curse of the #1 album. Rihanna will never get one in a major market ever. (Germany doesn't count.) Loud debuted at #3 in the US and #2 in the UK. It rose to #1 later, but if she's up against 1D I don't see that happening unless they drop like a ROCK which is certainly possible, but we'll have to wait and see how the second single plays out.
