I really don't think that was what he meant. A lot of pop music doesn't have the most meaningful of lyrics, he didn't say that none of it did nor that pop music is all trash...

All songs are about boys

To be fair, Cheers doesn't belong on that list... and Man Down only belongs if it's about killing an ex-lover...

I think the haters are very jealous of Taylor's talent, that's the only reason for their never-ending hatred of her.

She is a crossover artist. Have you listened to all of her songs by any chance?

I've listened to all of speak now, and about half of fearless and taylor swift.

Thats why she had sold out concert dates here, has top 10 hits and why her albums have gone top 5 and top 10 in numerous European countries. Not to mention her massive success in Australia and other countries not in Europe or North America,
It is very rare that an artist who is marketed as country does well outside of the US/Canada, that is a purely American genre. Shania Twain was the last country artist to be really big outside of America. Taylor is doing damn well.
|
That's because just like shania, taylor is NOT marketed as a country singer worldwide, her songs are remixed to a more pop sound. Worldwide she's basically a pop singer.

I do this all the time. I have a crap memory, I kind of see people as genderless here if that makes sense.
Sorry Sin. You know I love you.

And considering she wrote the entire album on her own between the ages of 18 and 20 is it really that bad?
She has plenty of time left to write that classic.

A lot of music doesn't have the most meaningful of lyrics. And some of it does. I would say let's judge by intention, not by genre—because I could name you plenty of stupid country songs about drinking, hooking up and tractors being sexy. Yes, songs about partying at the club usually aren't that deep or meaningful. Surprise! And yet, last time I looked, there's a new Nickelback song called "Bottoms Up" climbing into the upper echelons of rock radio.

Exactly. So we agree that genre snobbery is incredibly annoying and slightly pointless?

Yep. I hate it when people write off a song or artist because it is from a certain genre.
But I don't think that was Sins intention, perhaps she struck a chord.

haha! It's cool.
And you're right. GUYSS I don't mean there isn't such thing as a dance/pop song with substance. (ex. Born This Way, Firework, etc). Just saying why people are more lenient on stupid lyrics for that particular genre.

I never said it was bad, i actually think it's pretty good. I just think it's lyrically weak for some songs. I will say though that it is a big step forward in maturity compared to her other albums, but just not enough.
However like you said she still has time to write a country classic.
For the record i dont hate her, as she does seem like a genuinely nice person.

Though, I'll have to defend screamo for just a second. Although a lot of it isn't my particular cup of tea, a lot of screamo artists have some very substantial lyrics....even if nobody can decipher them...XD

I have yet to witness Taylor writing a song about drinking or tractors being sexy; and I honestly cannot stand the stereotypical country songs about drinking and American pride.
Taylor recently said at one of her shows "I think... we need music the most when we're feeling things really intensely." She writes songs to capture emotion; that's her intention, and she's quite successful at it.

I honestly think some of the less mature songs were put on there with the intention of being singles that were similar to Fearless. The Story of Us and Mine are too generic for singles, I like them but the belong on an album from when she was younger. I also cannot stand Innocent, the only Taylor song I don't use. It is so forced and contrived.

As nice as the lyrics can be, it just gives me a headache and it is indeed indecipherable.

Please, by this reason, people would hate (and some already do) Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, and the list goes on for writing about teenage experiences in their twenties.
