I also hate when people do that. Like you said, wrong is wrong. 99.9% of us are guilty of attacking or insulting somebody during our time on ATRL, whether it's in NHB or in a Tinychat room moments after finding out you've been banned while somebody screenshots it under another member's name.

Yeah! Most people here have online internet personas...some of which happen to post their pictures here. Being told you are ugly (especially if you put up a picture of yourself) is likely to hurt more than being told to "die of cancer" ...I understand the cancer insult can be painful too though, especially if you lost a loved one to it...
But this is the internet though and you can't possibly expect to NOT hear or see things like that....Just my take on it...

That's exactly how I feel. I don't know if people realize that most of what ATRLers say in fights/"draggings" isn't meant to be serious. People talk out of their asses on here
A LOT, especially when they're angry. The "ugly" insult is definitely more likely to hurt somebody. Though, somebody dragged (and I use the term
very lightly) my picture in NHB a couple of months ago and it didn't bother me. If anything, it was funny. But I don't take myself too seriously and can handle jokes/insults at my expense. I know that nobody everybody is that way, though.
Especially on a thread like No Holds Barred. Again, that thread is a breeding ground for disgusting insults.

Both are very low, yes. The lowest of all lows.
If you've ever had someone close to you die of cancer, you wouldn't think those were equal statements.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree. I've had several aunts and uncles die from cancer over the past 2 years, and a close family friend died from an AIDS related illness last year. But I'm not offended by people saying, "I hope you die from AIDS/cancer/etc". That's just me, though. I understand that what may be considered funny to one person is insulting to another. I still don't think that wishing death upon somebody (especially with an illness) is right, but I don't think it's more harmful than insulting somebody's looks, literacy, etc.
