For me
Rihanna >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everyone in music industry
For USA
I don't know or care. But Katy, Lady GaGa and Adele coming first. Then maybe Rihanna.
For World
Rihanna = Lady GaGa >>>> Adele >>>>>>>> Katy Perry

There are just records that shouldn't be broken. At least not from artists like Rihanna and Katy, when they're up against Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. It may be our generation of music, but honestly, I would prefer living in the 90's forever then.

Don't talk like Skyler please, show your arguments and not only giving random opinions, and please don't embarrass yourself pulling fake receipts on Mimi like you did for Xtina.

Duca was right, GGGB was her peak, at least digitally.

Agreed, but "Good Girl Gone Bad" still remains her peak. She was unstoppable. Keep in mind that digital market has changed since.
"Only Girl" took almost a year to go triple platinum, "What's My Name?" took ages to go double platinum, and "S&M" hasn't gone triple platinum yet even with the remix boost. At least she's shining in the album department now.

I think the biggest LOL in this thread is that people are forgetting Mariah had a totally different career pre-2001, and we all know her 90s receipts eclipse any other female singer whose name ain't Madonna.
On the other hand, the lambs are coming off as a seriously insecure lot, on this thread... I mean, seriously? i can't really blame the Rihanna stans for going in on her like that.
Y'all seem to be riled up by anything.

How about records like falling the hardest from #1 to #29 on UK album charts?
You will stay 2 years old if you were to live in the 90s, and stay sucking those silicon implanted **** for nourishment.

I don't know why y'all Mairah stans keep trying to insult Rihanna.
Y'all can just say, no I don't think Rihanna would break Mimi's record, but please, do not insult or even attack...
It's really fun to attack others, right?
I love Mariah but I can't stand y'all always insult and attack Rihanna like Beyonce stans do.
We all know Mariah is incredible and a better vocalist but Rihanna has her own way to shine out of the music industry.
One question, which is more famous in the world?
The answer is really obvious.

Records are meant to be broken. Rihanna may even be better than Michael and Mariah, but that's subjective. In my opinion, her #1's catalogue is much more versatile than theirs.

Mariah has 18 #1's. Rihanna has 10 #1's. Isn't it a bit to soon to asume in how much amount of time she'll get 8 #1's, if she even manages to get them. Moreover, The Beatles are still ahead of Mariah, so can we make a thread now if Rihanna will break The Beatles record?
Mariah has two Diamond albums in the USA. She ruled the 90's like no other. Her songs, and especially her #1's are already classics that will be never forgotten. Do you really want me to think that a song like "What's My Name" will do the same?
Mariah has a vocal range of five octaves and is the most popular female artist to use the whistle register. Proffessionals even say her vocal range spans over seven octaves, which is beyond amazing. What is Rihanna's vocal range. Can Rihanna belt? Has she ever been complimented vor her vocals? Is she known for her vocal delivery like Mariah Carey is?
And don't come always up with Xtina. I know you like her. I'm not afraid.

But Mariah is very unlikely to have another #1. "What's My Name?" is a bad example, but "Umbrella" is a classic, and possibly remembered more than any of Mariah's #1's.
FYI, Mariah HAD a vocal range of five octaves. Rihanna is still a bland, boring performer, but her vocals have improved. Nowhere near Mariah's best vocals, but still an improvement.

We have artists like Beyoncé or Christina in our generation, who give me some hope, but all in all, music has gotten worse and worse over the years.
C'mon just shut up. I enjoy today's music as well. Doesn't mean I can't prefer the music from older generations.

Duca is actually making many valid points. (I thought he hated Rihanna.)

You make me lose all respect for you. One Sweet Day is the song with the most weeks at #1. 16 weeks. That alone makes it american pop culture history. We Belong Together is the most popular song of the last decade, too bad it isn't your "classic" Umbrella. Those are just two examples to prove you wrong. But hey, think what you want to think, even if it's an unpopular opinion.

Sweetie, the question at hand here is whether or not Rihanna can break Mariah's record with 18 #1s, and no time limit is given in the OP. So, stop clouding your minds in disturbia and just answer yes or no. Plain and simple. The argument is legit as she's already ahead of Mariah given the same time span from 1st to 10th #1.

Having first reigned atop the Hot 100 the week of May 13, 2006, with "SOS," Rihanna logs the shortest span between a solo artist's first and 10th No. 1s in the chart's 52-year history, a stretch of four years, 11 months and two weeks. (This week's charts are dated Apr. 30, 2011).
Rihanna bests the five-year, four-month span between current Island Def Jam labelmate Mariah Carey's first ("Vision of Love," Aug. 4, 1990) and 10th ("One Sweet Day," Dec. 2, 1995) toppers to complete the quickest sprint to 10 Hot 100 No. 1s among solo artists. (Carey collected the first 15 of her 18 career No. 1s while signed to Columbia Records).
Among all acts, Rihanna trails only the Beatles (one year, eight months and one week) and the Supremes (two years, eight months and three weeks) for the fastest accumulation of 10 Hot 100 No. 1s.
Rihanna is additionally the youngest artist to notch 10 No. 1s in the Hot 100's archives. At 23 years, two months and one week, Rihanna (born Feb. 20, 1988) eclipses the mark established by Carey, who was 25 years, eight months and one week old when she tallied her 10th Hot 100 leader.

Name me the alleged "memorable" hits from Mariah when she topped the charts with the likes of sex addicts anthem and love songs, no different than Rihanna in the likes of Touch My Body, and such, and again the issue here is not who can attain "memorable" #1s, but focuses on the number. Read.
LOL wut, yes she could sing, and a one trick pony at that. Rihanna was never known as an amazing vocalist, but she does fairly well within her range, and doesn't have to resort to prerecorded vocals. Mimi vocal talents are gifted, and not everyone is gifted with such talents, it's like Christina wishing to be black, it just don't calculate.

Britney is the most versatile artist of the generation, the artist who progresses the most. Rihanna was heavily progressing until this era too, since “Loud” was a downgrade from both “Good Girl Gone Bad” and “Rated R.” Beyoncé evolves, but her music is nothing new really. The very same goes for Christina. Vocals aren't and never were everything.
