The whole point of her article is that you shouldn't let someone's -- ANYONE'S -- position as a respected or knowledgeable person in some arena substitute for actual substance. Just because they've been around for a long time doesn't mean that blank criticism, without substance or reasoning, should be accepted lightly.

She's merely pointing out that a critic should take the time to actually critique their subjects, as opposed to insulting. The latter is for an opinionated person with a blog and not the job of the critic.

My issue isn't with Gaga critiquing this person in general. There's nothing wrong with that. But broadcasting it when this person is a respected figure in an industry she seeks to become a part of is a problem and a bad decision on her part.

Exactly. I'm a little surprised at some people on here, their logic being that she shouldn't have gone after Cathy just because of who she is. Come again? People in this thread have given multiple examples of Cathy herself having come under fire for the stupid **** she said, so clearly Gaga's far from being the first or only person to call her out on her bull. And Gaga isn't some up-and-coming nobody desperately clawing her way into the fashion industry and needing to be on absolutely good terms with everyone no matter how much **** they throw at her, this isn't The Devil Wears Prada. Just because someone's in a position of power doesn't mean that no one should have the gall to stand up to them when need be. And she's a ****ing fashion critic, not a politician. People within that industry are given way too much reverence for me, especially those that don't really do ****.
