Discussion: Is Adele now officially the new "Voice of our Generation?"

For some reason I get the feeling that Adele is depressed in the inside. I wonder what she'll write about in her next album.. There won't be a relationship to write about right? Is she in one now?
Edit: And I wonder if that fact will hurt her in the future. Like Taylor Swift has been in EVERYONE her age group and that's what she writes about. Adele is not like that. Will that lack of fuel be her demise in the future?

Beyonce may have a bigger range but that does not make her the voice of are generation. Even though it's too early for Adele to have that title if she keeps what shes doing up she will get there. Like what someone else said before It's about touching a whole generation with your voice.

Have you ever seen one of her interviews? She's like the happiest, most awesome celebrity I know.

This. The thread clearly says "new Voice of our Generation", and out of all the new pop girls, who could be it, besides Adele? Chart success or vocal talent, she has it.
And I can't at people comparing her to SuBo or Norah Jones.
SuBo became famous for being physically unattractive with a great voice in some talent contest + she can only sell albums in holidays. Before that, she was a nobody.
Adele writes her songs, and before she became this huge phenomenon, she had already recieved critical praise and won Grammys.
As for Norah, didn't her sales explode after the Grammys where she won everything?
Before that, was she selling like Adele with just one single?

It's a pretty huge deal to be called the voice of a generation. You better be firing on all cylinders.
Christina doesn't fire on all cylinders:
-Good voice, but misused to the point that Beyonce and Adele are now largely considered better vocalists
-Good voice, but apparently not good enough to keep Britney from destroying her sales
-Good voice, but not good enough to keep her from having to pull all sorts of ****ty stunts to keep up with Britney
-Good voice, but poor reviews (not a single album over 70 on Metacritic. Her "masterpiece" Stripped barely above Teenage Dream)
Adele fires on all cylinders:
-Good voice, and knows how to use it so that no one is considered better
-Good voice - in fact, so good that her voice alone has led her to outsell every single artist in terms of albums and singles, to take over radio, to score the biggest hit single in 25 years and what will be the biggest album since the height of music sales in 2000
-Good voice - in fact, so good that she needs no ****ty stunts to keep up with the likes of Katy, Gaga and Rihanna
-Good voice, and amazing reviews
The sheer power of Adele's voice and lyrics, and the emotion they evoke, have made her the biggest juggernaut the music industry has seen in over 10 years. She has it all - the best reviews, the most respect and the biggest sales. Christina never had that.
She is...The Voice of our Generation.
Edit: oh, and also, not a single person has said anything bad about her. In the indirectly shady words of Lady Gaga, "Adele is really sweet and lovely, and you rarely meet people like that in this industry."

Good lord at this drag.

I wasn't insulting. I liked the formatting of your post. I was impressed.

She writes about what she's feeling at the time.
If she's feeling like a drunk bitch next album, that's what she will write about.

The emotion comes from her "heartbreak" which is present in the lyrics. That's what makes her standout. (to me , at least)

Well she's definitely bigger than Susan Boyle in terms of impact/sales etc.
But I still think she's going to go the route of Norah Jones. She'll sweep the grammys, have moderate success with her follow up album and then fade into oblivion.... why?
Because people have a short attention span, and a good voice will only carry you so far. While she is talented, she isn't entertaining.
Stans will disagree, but this is the true tea, and ya'll better start sippin.

She doesn't represent a generation though. She needs more time.

She needs more time. I'd give it to Xtina before I'd give it to Adele.

She has written about other stuff and her emotion soared. Just listen to "Hometown Glory," arguably one of her better written songs and vocal performances. She's capable of doing more.

In my immature standpoint, however, Adele's bland croakings are a long way from Mariah's melismatic monstrosities.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. But what I'm saying is, she will write about whatever she's feeling at the time. During her first album, she was in a tough relationship. Her second album - a breakup. She's not with that guy anymore, and it doesn't seem like she cares much about him anymore, so I can imagine her transitioning her lyrical content. But not too much. What do most AC/singer-songwriter artists sing about anyway?

I think she will in time. She's really the only mainstream artist that has let her music speak entirely for itself, which is certainly a feat considering image and branding is a crutch for everyone else. That being said though, I don't think it hurts to give an interview here or there, especially here in the U.S, where I see, at least where I go to school, that people love her music but don't necessarily love Adele. I've seen/read interviews of her as I'm sure everyone else here has, and know that she's a lot more laid back and fun than her music may portray.
I think to be the voice of our generation, people need to know the person behind the voice. And I'm sure everyone will then embrace her music and the person.

Norah Jones' second album was like the second best-selling album of 2004 behind Usher, and it opened with a million. There was nothing moderate about her follow-up album. What tea are you sipping?

I find her music to be over-rated. I think people feel like they have more substance if they listen to Adele because she is something other than Katy Perry and Britney Spears when in fact you can listen to whatever the hell music you want and still have substance as a person. She makes people feel intelligent and sophisticated. British, talented and not the kind of appearance expected from the music industry these days.

I'm glad someone said it.
