People who weren't from New York loved and bought "Empire State of Mind." People who weren't from California loved and bought "California Gurls." I'm not from Nebraska but I think "Yoü & I" is a great song—that's why I listen to it, not because it gives my home a shoutout. These remixes are pointless. Changing one words adds nothing to the value of the song. So why do it? Attention and sales.

She didnt get alot of **** for E.T. because it wasn't like a last minute thing.

This wouldn't be a big deal if it were just a version or two of the song, but in my opinion it's a little overboard doing so many versions of it. I think the song is fine as it is, and it's unique with the fact that it uses Nebraska. The VMA performance should have be enough.
And I really like the song and Gaga so don't take this wrong. I am just criticizing this particular marketing move.

She changed one word, it's not a big deal.
There's nothing new about the song but one word.
50 versions of the same exact song with a changed word in each one.
It's nowhere near as complicated as remixgate.

Except, this is not a strategy to get it to go #1, this is so the people hearing the song on the radio with their state's name can buy their state's version without being confused by her saying "Nebraska" in the original version. Katy and her desperate tactics to go #1 sure have warped you Katy Kats' minds.

My 2cents:
No its not a remix....it would an "Alternative Version"
Also, it reminds me of "A Public Affair" - Jessica Simpson

Her performances even if they arent flawless they play part a huge part to catapult her sales. They really work for her.
I just wanted to note that this whole thing is something Katy would do: releasing a 52-state version of California Gurls: Texas Gurls, Alaska Gurls etc. CG is funny, throwaway song. I'm just suprised that You and I, one of her most personal songs is recieving this overly commercial treatment. But this still can be seen as a cute way of promoting the song. I guess

This is desperate. And stupid. The song is fine as it is. You'd have to be a dumbass to like a song because they give your state a shout out.

You're acting like it's 50 different songs when it's one word changed 50 times.

Those songs weren't love songs. One was about dumb girls from CA. and the other was about an incredibly famous city. Nebraska is a random-ass state and it's a love song.
And exactly how does this bring attention to the song and/or increase sales? People are going to buy their state's version aka the one they hear and that is that. It's the same as if they were to buy the original version. People aren't going to buy both versions.

Cheap, tacky, last-minute and anything you would like to call it, it's still more reaching to her fans and the maybe the general public as well.
Moreover, I think this is a genius method to do a "monster census" and the sales figures may contribute to her tour schedule.

It has nothing to do with your state getting a shout out. It's a LOVE SONG AND THEY'RE MAKING IT RELATE-ABLE. Not everyone has a boyf. from Nebraska.

Except that would make no sense. "Alaska girls, we're unforgettable. Daisy dukes, bikinis on top."
No, stop.

Additionally, these state versions will be useful in the research on the provincialism of US people.
Mmmm, academic Gaga.

I apparently missed something big, because last I checked there were only 50 US States.

Which makes them 50 different versions of the song. Don't twist it.

Hilarious to hear people in here talk about GaGa being "desperate" for changing one word, when their own favourites have all recorded utterly desperate, cheap, tacky last-minute remixes to force their latest flimsy pop drivel to #1.
The hypocrisy!

Right, that's why on all of her fourth previous singles sales exploded selling up to 300K weekly after performing them, nice try

Oh my God, that's why I'm bringing this up here! For all the GaGa stans that bashed Katy yet Gaga is releasing 50 versions of her song to give it a boost on the charts.
