It might "elevate" her own work in the short-term, in your eyes, but I don't see how that is the obvious right path in the long run. The obvious advantage of working with professionals isn't even that they would "elevate" her work, it's that working with them teachers her a lot about how to approach directing. But perhaps she feels like she's already gathered a lot of insight and just needs some practice herself. Y&I certainly shows a progression in skill, even if it is plagued by some of the same problems as the other two videos.
She's an artist and she wants to try lots of things. She's beat that into everyone's head, so just let her do it. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, as much as I may want a Francis Lawrence video for MTN or a Quentin Tarantino one from HML + EC.
