Oh you didn't understand me. I by no means is against the idea that "Blackout" is a super album. If you think that it is great. I don't refute what critics say either. But my comment is the truth, I have said it here countless times, I don't use RS when the pop section is concerned. they even gave FF and BTW the exact mark just because they didn't want to upset any of the two stanbases. The fact that I know one critic is biased regarding Brit doesn't take anything away from Blackout's quality.

Aretha YES. The rest no and that's NOT ignorance, just because you don't have GREAT interest in music enough for you to research its history doesn't make you ignorant. If they are not remembered then it's nobody's fault. That's like me asking you to recall infuential 60's movies and tv shows when you just have a passing interest in TV and Cinema.
The likes of Beathoven, Mozart to MJ and Madonna are still remembered to this day by "educated" and ignorant people alike.
Let's look at the bigger picture here and stop hurling insults on people who don't recognize what we do, shall we?
|
It is ignorance. If I don't reacll any movies from the 60's even the classic ones then I'm IGNORANT in term of cinema and it is my fault. Oh and let's not, MJ and Madonna are pretty current, one just died and the other is making desperate fearturings with Justin Timberlake.
If you don't know them then you don't exist.

But im still holding out for her BIG SONG (coming soon) thanks to A Star Is Born.
And if it doesnt, we still have CIL, Single Ladies, Irreplaceable, and Listen.
|
Yes, it will become a classic a la 'Listen'
A Star Is Born will bring a signature song, I can feel it...

As much as we may look down on artists who tailor songs solely for the radio and praise those who eschew "easy, generic" hits, I don't think we'll be hearing any songs from BTW, FF or 4 on the radio 10 years from now. But I could see California Gurls being played 10 Summers from now.

Blackout was one of the first mainstream pop albums to go into the dance-pop electropop sound (along with the Timbaland productions - Loose and FutureSex/LoveSounds. I would say Confessions on a Dance Floor, but that's mainly Euro-pop (if there's a major difference)) in last decade. Let's see how critics praise that album years down the line. It would depend on how dance-pop/electropop is looked at in the future. It could be either good or bad.

It really isn't as significant as they claim. Plus there are similar sounding efforts which did much better commercially.

I want to hear songs directly influenced by Blackout.

Another lie, and im a testament to that.
Think is a MAINSTAY on talent shows so its remembered. Respect is just her most popular.
And the Beatles have probably one widely known key track by all ages and races, and I cant even name that cause I dont use the Beatles.
MJ is spot on though, his music is inescapable.
|
Respect is her only widely recognized song. Followed by think and chains of fools (and when I say followed, I mean like a turtle following a ferrari)
The beatles are juggernauts till this day! EVERYTIME they re-release their repertoire , millions across all demographics flock to the stores to buy them.

Speaking of this topic, are any albums from 2010 going to be remembered? Recovery was clearly smashing hard last year, will it be remembered? Thoughts?

The way FF will be remembered will be based on what happens AFTER this era. If she continues her decline, then it will be a brief shining moment in a popstar's ruin. If she makes a real comeback, it will be remembered as a promising stepping stone on her way back.
BTW will be remembered as something better than it is because of the strong imagery and hype. It will be what many will think is what secured her as a global superstar off the massive success of her debut.
4 will be remembered largely as a flop, albeit an artistically strong statement, akin to Erotica and Impossible Princess.

Let's not though, Blackout was actually quite an influential album, that is quite obvious. I mean, it didn't inspire every song that came after it, but still it advanced the whole dance movement quite successfully.

First of all I don't listen to the radio. And secondly im pretty sure the songs that are hits have jack **** to do with Blackout, your opinion on his influence is just as correct as my opinion RTWs impact.

Katy Perry 5 massive hits are more memorable than all these albums
Cali Gurls is one of the biggest summers songs ever
And ftr not everything has to be innovative and avant garde to be iconic.

I know that. However, Danja has worked under Timbaland and is almost considered his apprentice in many ways. They were working together a lot during the period of Blackout's recording, and they have very similar production styles.

You & I is coming to be clung to by HAC and AC stations for years and years.
But MusicTalker had a precient observation in the flop thread inspired by this one. California Gurls is already aging poorly. This summer would have most likely seen a rebound for CG because of the summer and the 69 cent discount...but it never passed HNC and now is actually lower than HNC.
