Arrested Development and Lauryn Hill are the only Hip Hop artists to win Best New Artist. Both revolutionized genres/sub-genres and were more up the Grammy voters' alley.
i was looking through BNA winners and they're inconsistent to say the least....it seems they play towards females in general though
I like Nicki, but I don't necessarily think she is the RUNAWAY best new artist of the year. Bon Iver put out an incredible album that received tons of acclaim, The Band Perry put out a couple of notable songs this period and Foster The People put out a solid album. If this was a weaker year, I could see her winning, but this year I can't see the majority going with someone like her. Keri Hilson was kinda in the same predicament.
Let's get this out of the way. Nicki Minaj will be a Best New Artist nominee, and she is ostensibly the frontrunner. No one else has sold as much, has had as many hit singles, and is as credible. Following closely behind is The Band Perry, another to benefit from the Gaga-induced rule change. Foster The People seemed like a longshot, but with a top twenty hit that will ascend even further, they are shoo-ins.

Also, which new artist(s) has the best chance at landing a nomination in ROTY, AOTY or SOTY? There were no new artists nominated elsewhere in the GF this past two years, but that could change this year.
Could "Pumped Up Kicks" be a ROTY nominee? What about Bon Iver in AOTY?
