Right? It's sad that most people I know didn't even give her music a listen (besides "Rehab", of course) until they found out that she was dead. She reminds me so much of Janis Joplin, in the sense that most people didn't take them seriously or enjoy them until after they died. And they were both really bad addicts, but incredibly talented women.
This happens to every famous person when they die. Aaliyah saw a HUGE increase in sales after her death. Even though she had some notable success, her untimely death really put in the spotlight. Even with iconic figures such as Michael Jackson, more people who spoke badly of him started to respect him and appreciate his music more once he died.
Same here. Though, I wouldn't say that I was ever a stan or a huge fan, I was still a big supporter and her music helped me through some rough times. I was really wanting her to conquer her addiction and make a huge comeback.
I don't get how people say they "saw this coming" and so it can't possibly be shocking. Not all addicts die from their addiction, and when they do, it's incredibly tragic. I know that I was really shocked when I first found out (ugh, on Twitter, of course...), and I was hoping and praying that it was a sick joke.
back to black slayed when she was alive... 6x platinum in the UK platinum US
I know, but that album came out years ago. I'm just saying people recognizing her for her talent. Absolutely no one was talking about Amy on this forum, until today.

I agree, most people tend to enjoy an artist's music more when they die, which is unfortunate. The Michael Jackson situation was a mess. People went from bashing the hell out of him one week, to kissing his ass the day he died. It was so sad that it took him dying in order for him to be respected and loved by many once again. I hope that Amy's parents and her husband Blake don't get a single penny of her album and single sales. That's why I was reluctant to repurchase all of her music again, because I don't want to support the people that betrayed her.
I'm just glad that we are all able to agree that Amy was extremely talented and made some amazing music. May she rest in peace.
The really sucky part out of all of it, is that, when someone dies, especially like this, everything that they needed and wanted comes after. The SUPPORT. And although it's great that everyones going out to and buying her stuff now, it dosent make much of a difference because she'll never be able to be on Earth and see it...

I completely agree. That is what truly breaks my heart. Amy didn't realize when she was alive just how much people loved her and enjoyed her music. All that she saw and heard in the months leading up to her death were the negative news articles and reports about how messy her life was. I can only imagine how she must have felt.

but that's mostly because she didn't release anything new/perform in years. When the dates for her Brazilian tour were announced, I started opening threads with her latest news, specially because they were pretty positive. But in the last months she went down the hill again... =/

That's not my point though. I'm just being honest people here weren't checking for Amy, until today. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Anyone with a heart would feel bad and would want to honor her the best way they can. Amy wasn't a hot topic on this forum AT ALL, she wasn't on anyone's avatar, etc. Again, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.... However, it happens when someone dies!

Obviously no one was checking for her cause she hadn't released anything in years. But back when she was releasing she was a hot topic on this site from what I remember.

I guess I didn't make myself clear, cause that's also my point. She wasn't promoting anything or touring, she was buried in her problems since 2008, so people lost interest in her.

You say that because you weren't here between 2007-2008. She was a hot topic by that time the same way Adele is in 2011. People here supported Amy and we were waiting to hear new music from her.

You either sit and you wait forever for her to release or you keep it pushing and hope she releases something. Most chose the latter .
