This was the year Pink broke out into her own (at first she was the white girl trying to be the R&B chick) and gave a huge "**** you!" to most pop stars out there. So, I think that's why she was honored that year. The VMAs love breakthroughs just as much as comebacks.
I can't quite explain Choreography, but that's a technical category and usually anything goes there. Plus, I don't want to get on Ace's bad side.
