I think that MTV does what they want in some categories no matter the fan voting results. In 2009 they spread the love in the fan voted categories: Beyoncé got VOTY, Taylor got Female, T.I got male, Eminem Hip Hop, Britney Pop, GaGa won Best New Artist, Green Day Rock.

For example do you think that Britney fans only chose to vote for her in Pop Video but not in Video Of The Year. But obviously MTV wouldn't give the VOTY award to Britney for a second consecutive year, especially when you have an iconic video like "Singles Ladies" which deserved the VOTY award more.

I think that this year they will spread the love too like they did in 2009.

They could've nominated Sweet Dreams &/or Why Don't you love (Not sure if this video was eligible) both videos **** on V.Phone but those videos didn't have GaGa. It was all GaGa hype last year.

As far as the Fan-voting goes. Its a crock, MTV will give the awards to whoever they want. No matter how many time you visit their site & vote to your little heart desires.

Beyonce winning VOTY is the exception but certainly not the rule, and she only won one fan-voted award that night, and this was before GaGa had such a crazy big fanbase.

Looking at the online polls, who tend to win majority of the times? Britney, GaGa, Justin and Taylor. So I'm against fan-voting. It'll just be the same artists winning awards, if they actually go by fan-voting. This year, others should win.

You can vote for Best New Artist up until the day of the show. The other categories ( not technical, which are voted on by a panel) have a deadline.

In 2007& 2008 Best New Artist was the only fan voted category because they got rid of the Viewers Choice category. However since 2009 you can vote in the other categories too (with the exception of the technical categories). Also in 2006 all the main categories were fan voted too.

But between 1984-2005 Best New Artist was chosen by MTV.
