Well this is just my opinion, but this is everything that was wrong with memoirs.
Cons
1. It was nothing like mariah promised it to be.
"There will be big ballads on the album"
"tried to make something for all who love Butterfly, and even older albums"
The entire album is just basically hip hop with It's A Wrap and Angels Cry. Languishing is probably th ebest song of the album.
2. I just can't stand it when most of the songs on an album sound the same. In Mimi, she managed to do R&B songs that were upbeat and all unique - Stay The nightm It's Like That, Shake It Off, and still do the big ballads - joy ride, circles, wbt, fly like a bird
On Memoirs it was basically hip hop dominant and the hip hop wasn't even GOOD hip hop. Stuff lik Ribbon, More THan Just Friends The Impossible all sounded repetitive.
3. Her vocals were probably the most disappointing ever. ever. Not only was it not in good form - ie broken as you hear when she belts high stuff like in IWKWLI, her breathy vocals in pretty much every song annoyed me.
Breathy vocals when purposeful is good - such as languishing it sounded amazing. but just using breathy vocals as a mere means to laziness annoyed me so much. Pretty much ALL the songs in memoirs followed this formula:
Breathy 1st verse, Breathy 2nd verse, Breathy chorus, sing last 10 seconds of chorus an octave higher - the only belting of the song and even her belts didn't sound good.
4. Yes IWKWLI is probably her worst cover ever. Did not do the song justice like her other covers and it climaxed way too early. I think she thought that just adding a whistle at the end would make things amazing but no

All her covers - without you, i'll be there, open arms, beautiful ones, against all odds, bringing on the heartbreak, they all had great vocals and musically they all worked.
The
pros of the album were basically the existence of Languishing, angels cry and i guess the angels prelude. I did like the album packaging and the retro photoshoots, however.
but as i said before MCIIU is proof that when rested, mc can deliver a great album.
