Born This Way is still my least favorite single by her.

It's unlikely that BTW will outsell JD, though it'll approach it.
But it'll definitely be more remembered.

OH, gotcha.
I was about to say in the US that would be unaccomplishable. (That's not a word but whatever)
WW that's reaching, but a possibility.

Eh, for me it ties with LoveGame.
Her singles selection is just so good that BTW really doesn't stand much of a chance.

Oh, please. Everyone here acts like Born This Way didn't sell almost 500,000 in 3 days and follow it with a bigger week. Everyone acts like it didn't top iTunes in every country. Everyone acts like it didn't completely overshadow all of the other music that was out and obliterate all the other songs on the Hot 100 upon release. Everyone forgets that it completely obliterated Hold It Against Me's spin records set just a few weeks before. Add that to the list of controversy is started. Everyone forgets that all everyone did for weeks after that song came out was complain about how she ripped off Madonna or this and that about the song.
Like it or not, it completely stole the attention of the music scene, for better or for worse, immediately upon release. Say all you want about her fans being the only ones buying it or about the song sucking, but it completely dwarfed the other releases and was the most anticipated music event in years.

Agree,
The words "Born This Way" will always be attached to Lady Gaga, it was a cultural experience. Its a "pop moment". Some of you just don't understand the impact it had and will continue to have.

Yeah all that in 1 week.
I'm still amazed how it is not at 3M yet while all katy singles do it so efortlessly. I don't agree it's a Aleandro Kind of hit (Alejandro didn't have the huge hype) but probably a Telephone kind of hit

I agree that Alejandro is one of Gaga's biggest hits worldwide but I wouldn't say it was bigger than Born this way. I'd say...
worldwide:
1. bad romance
2. poker face
3. alejandro
u.s.
1. born this way
2. bad romance
3. poker face
3. just dance

So don't you think that bolded sentence explains why it did so well in the first weeks?
Yep, it totally does
Nobody curs about that song, and no one will remember it, period.

What pisses me off about the song is that it had all that MASSIVE success, but it JUST NOW passed the 3 million mark.

It's already pretty clearly going to battle BR and PF as her trademark song. It doesn't matter why the song did so well, the point I'm making is that it was a cultural event and it did do well. Everyone felt the need to talk about it, whether they were praising it (critics) or bashing it (ATRL).
On a separate note, I hope Party in the U.S.A. murders the iTunes charts. I want top 25.

Repeating this over and over again won't make it true. It is the defining song of this era for her, and as long as she remains a force in pop culture, it will be remembered for that reason alone.

A smaller one, despite the fact that firework was enjoying a natural spike in its popularity.

Nop, this is like Britney's "Me Against The Music", was a complete success but no one really care about it, besides the fact that Madonna in the song.
Forgettable.

People still prefer to buy songs like E.T or Firework over "the colossal anthem of our generation"
