That quote is what I always say - the Holy Grail is if you can marry something that's outside the box with great hooks that turn it into a hit. It's an admirable thing to aspire to...but if the foundation of your song isn't simply and easily relatable (BR is, Judas isn't), the song is doomed from the start. That's how I knew Judas wouldn't do well before we heard it

I think that if it wasn't for its extremely energetic beat and for the religious references, Judas would be a very relatable song. I mean, all those girls would say "omg thats al about me and my evil ex bfriend".

But Judas is very good the way it is, I wouldn't change it (except for the post-chorus at the beginning, as I already said...). If it reached success or not, I don't give a ****.
But her label does.

You're giving them too much credit. 90% won't know what "Judas" refers to, and they're not going to look into it. You have to get them right away - they're not going to go do research.

That interview is amazing and is the reason I am such a huge fan of this woman.

She is smart, unique, creative and fearless. She doesn't allow the suits of the music industry stifle her artistic vision. Without risk, there is no growth. There will be missteps along the way but that is inevitable. I do not want her to dumb down her music.
