I don't think she thinks she can get away with it...I think she knows it pisses people off. At this point, the Madonna comparisons are going to be there for years, probably another decade to be honest. Even if she completely stopped wearing outfits that Madonna might have worn or posing in a way that resembles Marilyn Monroe, people will continue to draw comparisons, even where they are without basis.
I think she does it just enough to piss people off/garner continued media attention for it. As some article recently pointed out, the only people that are angry and complain about her resembling Madonna are those that never liked Madonna in the first place and were never going to like Gaga to begin with. It's pretty obvious at this point that her chameleonic ways extend far beyond Madonna and everything she did, but she will continue to be compared.
To be honest, I think Gaga's ability to flawlessly resemble a slew of legends in different genres is her greatest talent and something that few (if any) people in music history have been able to pull off on such a grand scale. I think it'll become more apparent just how important it is (assuming the quality of her work doesn't begin to drop).
