People keep asking me this question. When I first "stanned" for Gaga I didn't know what the Hot 100 was. I didn't know how much The Fame had sold b/c it hadn't come out yet. The first time I checked out the Hot 100 was during Paparazzi, which is what led me to ATRL. I just enjoyed
her in a way that I no longer do. Part of it was the fun of discovering her. Regardless of what she'd done with BTW, the novelty has worn off and it was never going to be as thrilling.
Ideally I would have preferred it if she had both managed to do something different from TF while still maintaining what made it special. It's not like her being "not as easily successful" this era is worth it b/c she's getting so much praise in exchange. If anything she'd getting trashed by the press. Which I felt was sort of inevitable no matter what she did (the press loves to try to bring you down when you're on top) but she really made it easy for them. A lot of the criticism (see today's MTV article) is deserved.
