Her performances aren't up to par b/c she's overworked.
For example she had 2 whole weeks off to do nothing but rehearse for The Grammys and shoot the BTW video, and it was a far better performance than her overrated VMA one.

Deviating from the above discussion, i want to know your opinions about, would scheibe have been a better hit than born this way if that was the first single? With its message of female empowerment...

The thing is that during TF + TFM era, everything was in correlation, which made it so special and interesting. She kept saying that her life is performance art during interviews. You could see it directly during her excellent performances - VMAs paparazzi for example, such an artistic performance. You could see it in her fashion. The fashion was in relation with the music - ie : disco stick for LoveGame, the paparazzi dress for The Fame Ball, the crystal glasses that you could see on the album cover and in her Just Dance performances + Poker Face video, the pyro bra - probably the most iconic things she's ever done. You can't forget them.
The videos were pure quality and at another level. Well it's hard to judge for this era, the Judas video is excellent, the BTW not so much. So, we'll have to wait to see the next ones.
I'm not saying she needs to come back to her TF TFM look, but maybe adapting it to this era as an evolution. Everything is done separetely at this moment - the fashion, the video, the music, the performances - they need to be in relation just like before to make them so much more interesting. At least, the music is a great evolution from TF TFM, so it's a good sign, and probably the most important one.

I'm sure there must be some people here who have faith that Gaga can deliver.

It's absolutely ridiculous, isn't it? She talks in interviews all the time about how people think she's peaked, people expect to see her fail, etc, and everyone on here talks about tha hataz but don't you people realize? YOU'RE who upset her. The people who are supposed to be by her side, yet doubt every move she makes. Frankly it's disgusting.

It wouldn't have worked as a first single at all. It's too... weird.

No. Not to mention, she recently posted that that song was about doing bad things without permission. Not the best way of detailing female empowerment to the public.

Radio 1's Big Weekend. One of her most phenomenal sets ever.

I can't believe I'm reading some of these comments. I swear, if Gaga descended onto the stage from heaven itself hand in hand with Jesus Christ, some people would say it was "boring" or "uninspired".
|
Well, then I'm waiting for her to do that. What are your favorite performances this era? I find all boring.

No. I don't like her performances this era so far. I'm glad you like them though, I wish I could say the same, but I expect and want much more than mediocrity from Gaga .

I loved the Grammy performance. It was simple, yet elegant; her vocals and dancing was on point; she looked amazing; the organ was a wonderful touch; and she seemed to really enjoy herself.

Honestly I'd argue that you're just not seeing the connection. It's not so much that she's directly using the elements from the video in her performance. She's metaphorically connecting everything and I think that got too deep for some people.
Like I said before, the mole. It's a performance art piece. She's adopting traditional requirements for beauty until they consume her, i.e. the mole taking up half her face. Think about it -- she said Born This Way is about a moment of endless transformation, about reinventing yourself until you find the you you want to be. You don't see a connection between that message and the ever-changing mole?
I'd say the goop(afterbirth) in the Born This Way video is on its way to becoming iconic -- she gets into a tank full of the stuff every time she performs the song. The egg(vessel) is certainly iconic.

Graham Norton performances
Radio 1 Big Weekend
American Idol (apart from the sax, but that wasn't Gagas fault, Clemons messed it up).

All the "monsters" saying Gaga has peaked will be the first one's in line to buy her concert tickets, here's a good idea why not wait until Gaga has actually given you something to worry about, this ear has been fine she's only just started to perform the songs give her to time to perfect things.

The BET '106 & Park' styling was a complete mess. And she's been ridiculously indecisive about her hair which effects the whole look. But overall the fashion has actually been pretty good. It's been not so over the top and dare I say - cohesive, most of the time. Her outfits on SNL, Graham Norton, and American Idol are some favorites of mine.
And she's not only wearing Mugler. She's worn Christian Lacroix, Jac Langheim, Maya Hansen, Viktor & Rolf, Louis Vuitton, Gaultier, Philip Armstrong, and tons of other designers in the past month. So stop saying she's only wearing Mugler!

That could have been quite isolating as a first single for her male fans, however.

They aren't mediocre. Most of the other girls still aren't doing it.
