"Wholesale" is generally the sale of goods to retailers. In this digital case, the label is providing a one-time digital product. Amazon, the retailer, pays them a fixed amount for this one-time product for each replication of it that they deliver to the consumer. So buying copies "wholesale" is equivalent to paying a fixed price for each digital replication delivered to a customer.
