I hope Amazon offers Beyonce the same deal next month.

i believe Amazon will start doing this for any artist they believe can bring in monumental sales. They probably won't do it for a while though, because they might get new attention but they still come out on a lost.

I'm not really giving a **** about Gaga sales, and deserving sales might I say...
But some Britney fans are mad cause they wish JIVE/Amazon had this deal so FF wouldn't be flopping so hard?
I'm not buying Born This Way cause I don't want to, Although I love the album, which I *illegally downloaded*, but I've honestly considered buying it when I saw the .99 offer, but I'm waiting for a future 1 cent deal.

Billboard had a standing policy against including releases that were only sold through one retailer in our chart. The Eagles released their "Long Road Out of Eden" album exclusively at Wal-Mart, a retailer that had not previously reported its exclusive titles to Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan. At the last minute, Wal-Mart, under pressure from the Eagles camp, reported sales figures, and it became clear that the Eagles had sold nearly twice as many copies of their album as had Britney. The powers-that-be (of which I was not one at the time) decided to make a policy switch because they felt the best decision was to allow for the most accurate chart. I'm not going to go back and second-guess that, but I will repeat: I don't believe in making a policy change that will affect the same week's charts.
|
Most importantly, I don't believe in changing or adding a rule in order to affect that week's charts. Now I know right away some of you -- again, Britney fans, we're communicating here -- will ask about what happened three-and-a-half years ago during the week of Britney's "Blackout" album release. In that case, Billboard had a standing policy against including releases that were only sold through one retailer in our chart.
Nope

Billboard made a great point. it's ok for artist and their label to discount to sell their tracks for 0.69 to become #1, but it's not ok to do what Amazon did, which is not discounted by the label?

However, for example (just making up #'s here), as opposed to Gaga getting credit 350,000 copies sold for $1 on Amazon, plus 700,000 for those bought in stores/iTunes for $14 or so, she should instead be credited for $350,000 worth sold on Amazon plus the $9.8 mill for those sold at the $14 price, etc. It makes so much more sense, and is more fair this way.
And this is not just about Gaga. I still think it's ******** that Jackie Evancho or whoever debuted on the Billboard 200 above Rihanna when her album was nearly 1/3 of the cost that Loud was. I'm sure it's affected other artists, as well. If people are spending $14 on one album, but only $5 on another, the one that made more money should receive more credit when it comes to Billboard figures.

now do u understand why Britney fans are mad? it really isnt fair to all other artists. its like a slap in the face.

You have to give him a break though, there comes a point where enough is enough and they needed to be singled out. I'm sure Billboard editors don't in any way appreciate being called corrupt on their personal Twitter accounts.

As we reported today, Amazon.com has spent literally millions of dollars buying the Gaga album from the Universal Music Group and Interscope at the standard wholesale cost of $8.40, and then selling it to fans for $.99.
|
For those who keep saying it was Gaga's initiative

I'm not sure what you're neglecting, but THERE WAS a chart changing policy which affected the ranking of Britney's "Blackout", 24 hours after Billboard, ITSELF, announced "Blackout" was #1, they released an statement saying they revised their rules and it was no longer #1.
It even got major media backlash...

Sorry, but Britney fans have no right to be mad. Artists who's album was only sold through on retailer were the ones being shaded, not Britney.
They sold double what Blackout did, so they obviously deserved the #1 spot. Yeah, Billboard's rule change came at a bad time for Britney, but you honestly think it would've been more fair for The Eagles (who I know not one song by, so this is not biased) to have not been granted the top position when they sold 700,000+ copies? Sorry, Blackout is my favorite Britney album by far, and one of my top 5 albums of all time, but Britney fans are wrong on this one.

Yall will not come for Jacki Evancho's wig... It was only 4 songs, hence the price, but she still snatched wigs.

I don't see how Amazon bought Born This Way copies in "wholesale" for $8.4 each when there's no such a thing as "wholesale" for digital products

It's time for Billboard to right the wrong they did with Britney...maybe then her fans would shut the **** up about it. Billboard knew it was shady when they pulled it, and that is why it was discussed.
