But with most countdown singles, they only sell a fraction of what the album's first week sales are. Which, in my opinion, is because a fraction of the devoted fans willing to buy the album first week continuously buy the countdown singles.

possibly. at least i hope so, Judas was a failed attempt at creating Poker Face/Bad Romance and it came off wierd in my opinion. judging by the reviews. Edge Of Glory is something new !

Well, the thing about digital artists is that the "fans" don't buy the album. Plus, the fact that he is black and is a rapper gives him an awfully large appeal to a wide audience. And the fact that he is poppier gives him a bit of a weird situation in that his "fans" will buy the singles.

To be honest, I think they are trying to get the point across that there are far bigger songs on the album than Judas, and that people should know that before the release date.

*To my understanding* they are just encouraging radio to play it & sending it, but not releasing it as an official single. They have no plans of giving up on Judas, especially now.
And I think it's possible for TEOG to debut pretty high. Wiz Khalifa's "No Sleep" debuted in the top 10, but he was following a huge hit with "Black & Yellow." But it's definitely possible.

I played "Judas" for my kiddos and it got about a 70% approval rate. Kids seem to like her. One of em came last week and told me she was obsessed with the song.
I'm wondering if that's a minority and that is why it's struggled to crack top 10.
