It was an extremely disappointing opening week, especially compared to those since the digital market has changed so much since then. There’s no excuse, since she had a banner too. Both "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies" had much better opening weeks.

And all of them had weeks of airplay before iTunes release. Girls isn't Top 40 material or iTunes friendly. It's not played nonstop by Top 40 radio like Britney or Gaga singles that were played every hour. We know that Top 40 radio attracts biggest number of iTunes buyers. Britney and especially Gaga's releases were hyped. And don't compare her with Katy and Ke$ha. That would be the same as me going to HITS thread expecting Ke$ha to have the same album sales as I Am… Sasha Fierce or comparing Katy's album sales to Bey's. They have completely different fanbase. Beyonce's fans are mostly old-fashioned while Katy's,Rihanna's,Ke$ha's,Gaga's are mostly teenagers. You can't compare.
