People you're a mess.
First you say Rihanna has been out for 6 years... right.... she has released her 5th album... i don't care about those fake media traffic figures... according to official US Sales ... Teenage Dream has sold more copies than Loud and last week TD was still Top 20 while Loud was out of the Top 20... while Katy's album was released months before Loud..... right? Katy Perry has released two albums and alredy has 5 number ones... 4 of his second release... while Rihanna has released 22 singles, 5 albums and has only 2 more number ones...... I'm not shading Rihanna, but Katy has sold 4 million with four of her singles... the fact is that Katy with half of Rihanna's career is doing so much better than Rihanna in terms of singles and US sales...

You can have 313432423 words but you can't avoid the fact that Katy is outselling Rihanna's 6 year career and her collaboration with the pop princess Britney Spears with her 4th consecutive number one single and her 2 year career.

Thats all fie and dandy but you are upsetting the serene mood that long walked this thread. If you want to compare her fine but just because someone is having tremendous success right now doesnt mean it will last forever. I am content with Rih's selling power as she is a Worldwide artist. Loud is selling well in the US. Its not doing tremendously well but good enough for her standards and is an improvement compared to her other efforts. You can derail her achievements all you want but it still wont take them away from her.

Her albums aren't juggernauts. She has no 'Rhythm Nation,' 'Whitney Houston,' 'Daydream,' 'Thriller,' 'Like a Prayer,' etc. No, I'm not just talking about sales because it's hard to top those sales, but she has no #1 albums and her albums are typically modest sellers, even for today's climate. It seems like her chart record history is limited to the singles chart.
When you look at Rihanna and the artists in the same pile, she does look like the odd one out. I'm not trying to take away her achievements. She worked hard for them, but it would be nice if her label puts some energy into achieving other things, too.

Def Jam already tried with "Rated R", which I think it's a great album, but failed to not only match the previous album success but also gain massive critical acclaim that would put it in those all-time classics lists and such, which I believe is what they were going for. They wanted to ride the nothing-can-go-wrong wave (which is what Lady Gaga is currently doing) after the major global exposure that "Good Girl Gone Bad" gave her, but didn't succeed. Now we're back to "Loud", which is an okay album and lacks Rihanna's song-writing involvement.

I'm sorry maybe it looks negative but i just saying.... it took 6 years and 5 albums for Rihanna to achieve the number ones and digital sales that Katy is achieving with her second album and less than 3 years career. We're comparing a relative new artist with an established artist so that means something... Rihanna should be performing way better than Katy with all those number ones and achievements....
i mean, Rihanna is doing great... but Katy is doing AMAZING.
it's my opinion, you can have yours and i respect it.
and again, sorry if i sounded disrespectful....

Rihanna is performing better than Katy Perry. Loud outsold Teenage Dream in less than 3 months. You are solely basing your opinion Hot 100 wise which is a stretch...

Katy is doing amazing now, but how about in few years? No artist is immune to failing(Aguilera and Avril are the best examples). So nobody knows- may be TD is the peak in Perry's career (and GGGB in Rihanna's).

Katy was only #1 because she released her album when there was no competition. Rihanna seems to always release when there's is a lot of competition so don't go on about Katy's #1 album SMFH. Rated R hasn't sold much world wide but it still debuted higher than the Fam Monster So please sit No Shade Intended.

I don't know why you felt the need to throw in Gaga... that had nothing to do with Lady Gaga. Born This Way the album hasn't even came out yet. Her 1st single did amazingly well, her 2nd single was released 2 days ago...
Sigh, anyways
I cant wait to see that #1 this week should be entertaining.

I don't think Katy or Rihanna will top their biggest albums any time soon or EVER.
Katy has produced 4 #1 singles on one album that has sold only 1.3 million. Her albums will continue to scan around that amount or less.
Rihanna is a similar case. 2.7 million with a re-release and a bunch of smash singles, and her last two albums only scanned a little over 1 million.
They will continue to be modest album sellers and get hits per album.

Why the hell are Katy Perry and Rihanna getting compared? Why does anyone get compared to anyone on the mess forum? I love a good drag and weave-heave but people need to sit the hell down. They're both doing amazingly and are having two very successful eras simultaneously! Why the absolute need to say one is doing better than the other?

A #1 is a #1 what's weak about that? "Poker Face" spent only 1 week at #1, "Big Girls Don't Cry" spent only week at #1.
