Which is very impressive. Hopefully she breaks MJ's record. I love when newbies rival legends.

I didn't expect this album to produce the #1s it did, so...

We already have meltdowns all over the place and she hasn't even snatched Janet's wig yet. I wonder what'll happen when she's coming for Madonna.

Madonna's wig will be snatched in 2012. I feel it.

With how shady IDJ has been getting all these #1s for Rihanna, I'd say she'd be at #25 by then.

Rihanna: 5 Albums / 22 Singles = 7 #1 Hits
Katy: 2 Albums / 8 Singles = 5 #1 Hits

I'm not trying to shade Rihanna, but she and her label are making it so obvious that they are only here for #1 singles. I wish they would take some of that effort and put it towards her getting a #1 album or at least a 3x Platinum album. She's competing with people like Whitney, Janet, Michael Jackson, Mariah, etc. for those record-breaking #1 singles, but they have multiple #1 albums and multi-platinum selling albums to go along with those #1 singles. She just looks like the orange out of all the apples in the bunch.

If Def Jam wanted they could get her a 3x platinum album. I mean GGGB is at 2.8M+. Albums that have sold considerably less from 2003 are certified but thats neither here or there. Of course they are here for #1 singles. Which label isnt? Def Jam is just greedy and have too many big name superstars on their roster. If they wanted Rihanna to have a #1 album they would have given her releases in slow weeks. But they dont care about the album peaks they just care for the sales.
When you bring in peaks into play. The position that a single peaks has more weight than how an album peaks. Because an album only relies on sales while a song will have the #1 attached to its name forever.

That's how Mariah got some of her No. 1's. If anything, she's the queen of dirty chart strategies, not Rihanna. But I do get your point.
By the way, "Loud" is selling like hot cakes in the UK, another key market.

My point is, when she ranks up there with all those artists on the #1 singles list, she is still missing several things those artists have. It just makes her look like the orange out of the bunch.
One thing I can say about Mariah is that while her label was hungry for those #1 singles, she never disappointed in other significant chart areas and achievements.

Yes you're right but the industry has changed a considerable lot over the years so new breed is always going to come up. Look at Katy besting the likes of legends with 4 straight #1 singles off 1 album and setting records for longest streak in the top 10. Sure, she nor Rihanna cant match up to the old school artists but that doesnt mean that they cant be recognized as they still had to work for it. These accolades werent handed down to them either. By you saying that she's like an orange in the bunch do you want to have the same apples forever?

Lets not branch off topic here with flamebait posts. The topic of the thread is to discuss "singles". The troll will get his Just Desserts.

After "Butterfly", the quality of her music went on decline tremendously, excluding "The Emancipation". Funnily enough, it all started when she and her label started to be more cynical about getting those No. 1's.

Teenage Dream's sales are even lower than Rated R, which people call it FLOP.
Now Loud gon pass 4 million, but TD?
Where it at? OMG still struggling!!!!
I love katy very much and I got TD copy but I really can't endure your guys keep shading Robyn.
Robyn's been out for 6 year, but Katy?
Let's see if her next album will do amazingly too.

I explained what I meant by that.
Her albums aren't juggernauts. She has no 'Rhythm Nation,' 'Whitney Houston,' 'Daydream,' 'Thriller,' 'Like a Prayer,' etc. No, I'm not just talking about sales because it's hard to top those sales, but she has no #1 albums and her albums are typically modest sellers, even for today's climate. It seems like her chart record history is limited to the singles chart.
When you look at Rihanna and the artists in the same pile, she does look like the odd one out. I'm not trying to take away her achievements. She worked hard for them, but it would be nice if her label puts some energy into achieving other things, too.

But you can't deny her albums are really selling well.
GGGB great
RR people call it FLOP but it outsell TD
LOUD 5m this year.
She technically is an album seller now.
